The doctoral programme at Biological and Life Sciences will lead to a PhD degree in Life Sciences. The programme offers students research opportunities in areas ranging from molecular and cellular biology, to integrative and systems biology. We encourage both pure and applied research in biology, and prepare students for a career in the biomedical and biotechnology industry, or in research and academia. Students will complete prescribed course work and select a faculty member as a dissertation supervisor who will guide research work and monitor progress. While working on the dissertation, students are encouraged to collaborate with their peers, participate in seminars, present their research at conferences, and publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals. We emphasise scholarship and provide an environment that is open to intellectual discussion. Ahmedabad University encourages multi-disciplinary thinking, cross-disciplinary interactions, and research collaborations. Our laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art facilities for research in molecular, cellular, biochemical, integrative, and computational biology. Faculty research spans the following areas, with many faculty engaging in inter-disciplinary research in overlapping areas:
- Environmental biotechnology
- Ecology and evolutionary biology
- Microbiology and Parasitology
- Molecular and cellular biology
- Physiology and neuroscience
- Stem cell and cancer biology
- Systems and integrative biology
- Nanobiotechnology, nanomedicine, and nanotoxicology
- Bioinformatics and biophysics
