Aliah University is a state university that is under the Department of Minority Affairs and Madrasah Education, Government of West Bengal. The university was established in the year 1780. The university in its present form came into existence in the year 2007. The university is a UGC, AICTE and NCTE approved autonomous institute. It plays a leading role in the advancement of higher education, especially of the Minorities who have, for various historical reasons, remained socially and educationally backward. Aliah University was first set up by Warren Hastings in New Town in 1780. This is why it forms one of the oldest institutes in the country. Previously known as the Calcutta Madrasah or the Mohammedan College of Calcutta, AU spans across an area of 20 acres now. It was converted into a university in 2008 and now has about 200 faculty members with more than 5800 student enrollments. It is approved by the UGC and is given the AA+ grade by the NAAC(National Assessment and Accreditation Council) in engineering. It offers many undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses in a plethora of fields like arts, sciences, technology, engineering, nursing, and Islamic theology. It is essentially a state university and therefore provides many scholarships that are provided by the state government and the university itself.

Aliah University Scholarships

The university provides a variety of scholarships to many students who are weak financially or form minority groups. This is done to support their education and encourage them to study further. Therefore, students can study by paying a nominal or no fee and have no financial burden on themselves.

Scholarship Name	Eligibility	Benefits
Swami Vivekananda Merit Cum Means Scholarship for Minorities	The student must be a domicile of West Bengal. You must have at least 75% marks in 12th for UG courses and about 53% in graduation level course for PG courses. The family income of the candidate should not exceed a maximum of Rs. 2.5 lakhs.	The student gets a support amount of Rs. 8000 per month based on the course that he/she is pursuing.
Bigyani Kanya Medha Britti Scholarship	This scholarship is for all girls of domicile West Bengal. The candidate should’ve passed 12th grade from any board and should be pursuing any technical course in engineering, medicine or sciences	The girls will get an annual book grant of Rs. 2000. Additionally, they will get a sum of Rs 3000 per month
PostMatric Scholarship for SC/ST/OBC	The candidate should be of SC/ST/OBC category and West Bengal Domicile. Further, family income for SC/ST should not exceed 2-2.5 lakhs per annum. For OBC category, family income should not exceed Rs. 1 lakh per annum.	The student will get an amount ranging from Rs 160- Rs 1200 per month under this scheme.
Hindi Scholarship Scheme	You must belong to a non-Hindi speaking state and be a resident of West Bengal. Further, one must have at least 60% marks in the previous qualification with Hindi as a subject.	The student can get variable awards from about Rs 300 to Rs 1000 per month
