Assam Agriculture University happens to be the first agricultural university in the north eastern region of the country. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in the field of Agriculture, Veterinary Science, Home Science, Fisheries Science, Horticulture and Sericulture.

Two colleges are affiliated to Assam Agricultural University. Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, Lakhimpur and College of Fisheries Science, Nagaon. Admissions at AAU Jorhat are offered at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The university conducts a common entrance test for admission to undergraduate programmes.
