Previously known as Bhopal University, Barkatullah University was founded in 1970 in the capital city of Madhya Pradesh. In 1988, it was renamed Barkatullah Vishwavidyalaya in honor of the renowned freedom fighter, Professor Barkatullah, who hailed from Bhopal. The university earned a 'B' grade accreditation from NAAC in 2015. This institution provides a range of higher education programs, delivering courses through its affiliated colleges and university teaching departments across various faculties, including Arts, Social Science, Science, Life Science, Engineering, Law, Commerce, Education, Physical Education, Technology, Home Science, and Management. The territorial jurisdiction of the university encompasses eight districts: Bhopal, Sehore, Vidisha, Raisen, Hoshangabad, Harda, Betul, and Rajgarh.

The university accepts JEE Main for admission to engineering courses, CUET for UG courses, GATE for MTech courses, CAT/CMAT for admission to MBA. 

Barkatullah University Bhopal Location 

BU Bhopal is situated on a sprawling campus spanning approximately 400 acres, the university is positioned alongside the Hoshangabad highway, approximately 3 kilometers away from the Habibganj Railway Station. The railway station is 6.5 km away from Bhopal. From the Habibganj railway station, the distance of  Bhopal University is 3 km. Students can reach there via Narmadapuram road. Public transport facility is available from the railway station.
