Bharathiar University (BU) was established in 1982 by the Government of Tamilnadu. The university was established under the Bharathiar University Act, 1981. Bharathiar University, Coimbatore is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with grade A. The university is also recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). As per the NIRF Ranking 2021, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore has been ranked at 14th position in the university category and at 22nd position in the overall category. Bharathiar University Clubs, Committees and Societies

Students at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore are encouraged to participate in various clubs and committees for their overall growth and development. Bharathiar University Admissions

Meeting the eligibility criteria is the first step of the Bharathiar University, Coimbatore admission process. The university holds a common admission process for the diploma, B.Voc. and P.G.D programmes. For Bharathiar University admission to the B.P.Ed. programme, candidates have to appear for an entrance test, physical fitness test and sports proficiency test. The final selection of the candidates to the B.P.Ed. programme is based on marks of the entrance test (30 marks), sports proficiency test (60 marks), marks obtained in the qualifying exam (40 marks), for previous participation/representation certificates (20 marks) and physical fitness.

As per the Bharathiar University admission criteria for the diploma, B.Voc. and P.G.D programmes, candidates are selected on the basis of marks obtained by them in the qualifying exam. For PG programmes admission, candidates are selected on the basis of merit scores of the qualifying exam, except M.Sc.Mathematics and M.Sc. Science programmes, where candidates also have to appear for the university-level entrance test. Thus, marks of both the entrance test and the qualifying exam are considered for the M.Sc.Mathematics and M.Sc. Science programmes admission. According to the Bharathiar University admission procedure for the M.B.A and M.C.A. programmes, marks of TANCET are accepted to allot seats during the counselling.

Bharathiar University Scholarships

The university offers free education schemes for the poor and deserving students. Under this Bharathiar University scholarship scheme, candidates from each department whose annual family income is less than Rs. 2 lakhs are awarded free education. Candidates at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore can also avail National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme. This scheme is also available for fresher candidates. Other scholarships like PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST Students, Ishan Uday Scholarship for Students of North Eastern Region are also available. These are some of the central government scholarships. 

To avail the central government scholarships, candidates have to apply on the National Scholarship Portal. Candidates must apply for the scholarships only if they meet the eligibility criteria. As per the Bharathiar University scholarship criteria, candidates meeting the eligibility criteria are awarded the scholarship amount. For example, for the PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, the candidate should be a single girl child and should be pursuing master’s degree. Under this scheme, Rs. 3,100 per month is awarded. SC/ST students seeking scholarships can apply for the PG Scholarship for Professional Courses for SC/ST Students and so on.

Placement-training is also provided through finishing schools to train the students for placement.
