To be eligible for admission in the university, candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria determined by the varsity. Central University of Punjab admissions to all the PG courses are offered based on CUCET score. For admission in M.Tech and M.Pharma courses, the university also accepts GATE and GPAT scores respectively. As per the CUPB admission criteria, preference is given to GATE candidates in M.Tech admission, whereas, candidates with a valid score in GPAT are preferred in M.Pharma admission. The varsity admission to Ph.D courses is also done on the basis of CUCET score and personal interview performance. However, candidates who have qualified UGC/CSIR/ASRB-NET, ICMR-JRF, GATE, GPAT, DBT-BET and JEST (Physics) are exempted from the entrance test. The varsity provides 44 postgraduate courses. The PG courses are offered in engineering, management, commerce and many more streams. The duration of all the postgraduate programmes is 2 years.

The Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.D) programme is offered in 35 specialisations. Some of the specialisations are chemistry, law, environmental studies, mass communication & media studies etc. Candidates need a postgraduate degree from a recognised university, in order to be eligible for CUPB Ph.D courses admission.
