Gauhati University was incorporated by an Act of 1947. K. K. Handique served as the institution's first vice-chancellor as it began operations on January 26, 1948, as an affiliating, teaching, and residential university in a few temporary buildings in Guwahati. To get admission in M.Com students must have at least 45 per cent in B.Com and for M.Lib.I.Sc. students need to get at least 40 per cent in any stream from a recognised board. For admission in MBA degree, candidates who have received more than a 75 percentile in the CAT, MAT, XAT are excluded from appearing from the admission exam.
