The varsity offers admission to its diploma, UG, PG and doctoral programmes on merit basis and entrance exam basis. Candidates’ marks in the last qualifying examination are considered for admission in the Bachelor of Computer Applications (B.C.A.) programme. The university has three undergraduate programmes - B.C.A., B.B.A and L.L.B. The duration of all the programmes is three years. Candidates must have passed 10+2 from a recognised board to take admission in the HPU Shimla UG courses.

The maximum number of university courses are offered at the postgraduate level. The varsity offers 61 PG courses in commerce, education, sciences and many more streams. Only candidates with a bachelor degree from a recognized university are eligible for admission in postgraduate programmes.
