Batch of 2018 | PGPM
It's been a couple of months since I have joined this institute. The institute is currently at its temporary campus at Punjab Polytechnic college, Amritsar. All faculties visiting are from top institutes like IIM Kozhikode, IIT Delhi, IIFT Delhi, MDI Gurgaon etc. The guest lectures are conducted frequently. Some of them are Virtual Mitral from Barclays, others from the Indian army, Dr. Lal Pathlabs etc. The hostel facility is very good, transportation is provided as the hostel is away from college. The food is okay, less variety in the menu. As this only being the second batch and the first batch is in final year I can not say anything about placements but entire first batch got summer placement hence I am expecting good final placement this year. The academic staff is supporting to all. The library is also well enriched with books and other knowledge stuff. The only problem I felt was traveling as the current hostel is 20 km away from college and another thing is food, it takes the time to get used to as fewer vegetables and more milk products. Also as there is no permanent faculty currently the schedule is as per the availability of professors. The sports and cultural events are organized but we get very less time to engage in sports. The indoor game facility is available at the hostel. Overall the institute is good. I will recommend people to join it. It is one of the best IIM amongst the new IIMs in Infrastructure facilities, teaching staff, placements etc.

Batch of 2018 | PGPM
Infrastructure is no doubt best in its class . We have IIC which works day and night to call industry leaders for guest lectures. Learning experience from peers, teachers and most of our seniors. Yet to sit in summer internship but yeah seniors did the internship in E&Y, FMCG companies, Govt of INDIA and list goes on. High-speed internet , hygienic mess , clean rooms with twin sharing , on time cleaning , laundry , volleyball court, sports equipment , medical facilities and all the help needed. The crowd includes 84% engineers . 60% experienced people . 40% fresher . students from IITs , NITs and all good colleges of India . Compared with other B-Schools and infrastructure provided fees is moderate and affordable as you get loan very easily at lower rates ,without co-borrower .

IIM AMRITSAR A new star has born

Navneet

Batch of 2016 | PGPM
The Indian Institutes of Management have been the epitome of management education in our country since their inception early after our independence. IIM Amritsar is the 15th addition to the family of IIMs. Setup under the mentorship of IIM Kozhikode, an institute which has been at the summit of imparting managerial education, IIM Amritsar has followed its mentor’s footstep right from the start. In a short span of 12 months, it has already consolidated its position in the league of premier B-schools. This has been corroborated by the fact that the institute has been able to double its intake and yet achieve a coveted cutoff of 95.6 percentile in just a year. IIM Amritsar follows the same pedagogy of IIM Kozhikode which involves intensive case studies, absorbing field work, role plays, and continuous corporate interaction workshops. The program has been conceived to provide world-class management education to meet the requirements of enterprises across sectors by producing highly skilled management professionals. Along with their managerial education, students at IIM Amritsar have been the proud winner at various national and inter IIMs events in the last year. Building on the excellent legacy of the IIM brand, IIM Amritsar aims to foster a culture which can engender socially responsible managers and emotionally mature leaders. “Intelligence plus character – that is the true goal of education” -Abraham Lincon. HOW IT ALL STARTED FOR ME It all started with a beaming notification light, when I open my cell expecting another WhatsApp message there it flashed “ Congratulations you are selected for PGP program at IIM AMRITSAR” , that day my life changed and still sometimes it feels like I am living in a dream, one much awaited one. With hearts full of expectation , pride overflowing here we arrived at our dream B-School IIM Amritsar. With all the stories that we heard about IIM’s, witnessing and judging everything with our naive perceptions whether it fits into our narration or not. The journey in Indian Institute Of Management, Amritsar started on 14th July in the morning itself. The first time I arrived in college, the first time I read the words Indian Institute Of Management, Amritsar on the board, I felt like I had finally arrived. That my time starts now. Others started arriving soon and later we were moved to the hostel. The rest of the day was spent in adjusting to the hostel and remembering the names of the fellow batchmates with whom the rest of the two years are going to be spent. The next day was the day of registration. We were taken to college, given a tour of the facilities and registered for the program. It was official. I was now officially a part of the pump program of IIM Amritsar. The rest of the day was an off where we interacted with fellow batchmates and seniors as well. The inauguration of the program was scheduled at 15th July It was graced by director, Pidilite. The director shared his wonderful vision for the future of the institute and inspired us to shape the future of the institute as well as ourselves. The inauguration was followed by a sumptuous lunch and other orientation activities. The orientation lasted for the next 4 more days and gave us a brief glimpse to the busy schedule that we were going to face ahead. Soon the lectures commenced and we were left busy with assignments and case studies from the first day itself. The first week completed and no one had any idea how the days went. Induction day by seniors was the first fun activity we had in a long time. (or what felt like a long time). The activity was that we had to interact with seniors and get to know them better. A quiz was conducted later where various fun questions regarding the seniors were asked. The activity was a genius idea to increase the interaction with seniors. It was a lot of fun and both seniors and juniors had a great time together. We also had various guest lectures by many eminent industry personalities. Dr. O P Manchanda, CEO of Dr. LAL PAth labs was trst lecture we had. He left us enlightened with his knowledge and answered all our queries. The next guest was Mr. Vratul Mittal, VP of Barclays Bank. He gave us great insight into life after B-School and advised us against the decisions we should take now and the mistakes that he made that we shouldn’t repeat. Gen Cheema visited us next with a very good lecture on leadership and what makes a leader. EXIM Bank VP gave us an insight into Indian economy and factor driving it. It has been a truly enlightening journey so far. The independence day was celebrated very enthusiastically in the college. We had a flag hoisting ceremony and a fun photo session. There was a play by the students as well as a dance performance. Kritansh auctions were held next. Everyone felt like players in IPL by the degree of professionalism with which it was conducted. Any story about the first term at IIM Am wouldn’t even have begun if it does not mention the academics involved. The time before I joined was filled with stories about the enormous amount of studies that would be involved in my two years there, and the first term was filled with the Seniors constantly reminding us of how hectic the first year was with their chants of “Mungo Fachchon Muggo!!!”….which after a point of time, we became immune to. Those chants were not unjustified, though! Academics are tough out here. OB, MM, MC, QM, ME, STI.HRM classes were a joy just because of the professor, someone who many a student has referred to as “GOD LEVEL!!!” (That’s just one of the terms that are so overused on campus that it has lost all significance.). I still remember a 3.5 hours session he once took. And honestly, that has been my best class in MM ! to date. It was simply brilliant. The first few weeks, I never understood how people could sleep in class. Don’t they sleep at night? Sheesh!! A few more days later, I understood. In the first term, the amount I slept in class was actually quite less.especially when compared to the hours I spent sleeping in class in Term 3, but that’s a story for another time. While some classes were spent in absolute bewilderment at the sheer brilliance of the professor’s analytical skills, some were spent also in bewilderment at the sheer complexity of the subject (or was it my sheer stupidity for not understanding?? I can't remember!) There were loads of assignments to do , but some of them were fun as well. The quizzes are very scary….at least the first time. I didn’t know what to expect, and on top of that, I didn’t know anything related to the subjects. So most of my exams involved pure gas. And that was when I discovered my secret to surviving the first year here:- Fart! The success of a person here is dependent to a certain extent on his/her ability to talk absolute bullcrap for hours about anything under the sun. And I was quick to learn that. But that my friends, is not applicable to all subjects. :P
