IISc Bangalore Admission Details: Eligibility, Dates, Application, Fees

Students are offered admission in various courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels at IISc Bangalore. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore admissions are offered in the following branches: General Management, Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Product Design etc. Admission in B.Sc. (Research) will be offered to students based on their performance in the national entrance examination (KVPY/JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/NEET-UG). Students are required to fill the IISc Bangalore application form for UG admissions by accessing the IISc Bangalore admission website. The application fee is INR 500/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD categories. It must be noted that the payment option is available- online payment mode (net banking, visa card/ mastercard, debit/credit cards).

Admission in some M.Tech programmes such as M.Tech Aerospace Engineering, M.Tech Chemical Engineering, M.Tech Electrical Engineering is based on GATE scores. Whereas, for some M.Tech specialisation such as M.Tech Climate Science, M.Tech Earth Science etc there will be an interview round as well. For such courses, admissions are based on 70% on GATE score plus 30% on interview. Students who are willing to take admission in M.Des Product Design and Engineering must note that they need to appear and obtain valid scores in CEED/GATE to be eligible for further rounds of the IISc Bangalore admission process. 

Candidates are shortlisted for an interview for admission in Ph.D. programmes based on their performance in the national entrance test and/or the qualifying degree. The selection is based on the performance in the interview (in some of the departments, an aptitude test/preliminary interview will precede the interview/final interview). Admission in integrated Ph.D. programmes will be based on the performance in JAM and interview. Selection – For Biological, Physical and Mathematical Sciences selection will be based on the combined performance in the Test and in the Interview. For Chemical Sciences, selection will be based only on the performance in the Interview.

IISc Bangalore UG Admissions

There are six courses offered by Indian Institute of Science Bangalore for IISc Bangalore UG admissions. IISc Bangalore UG courses offered are- B.Sc. Research in Biology, B.Sc. Research in Chemistry, B.Sc. Research in Earth and Environmental Science, B.Sc. in Material, B.Sc. in Mathematics. Candidates are given admission in B.Sc. (Research) based on their performance in the national level entrance examination ( (KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET-UG).

• Candidates seeking admission in the undergraduate course- B.Sc. (Research) must visit the official website of IISc Bangalore for filling the application form.

• It must be noted that the IISc Bangalore application form will only be available online.

• Candidates are required to fill the application form with all the required details along with requisite documents.

• The application fee is Rs. 500/- for GN/OBC/KM candidates and Rs. 250/- for SC/ST/PWD categories.

• It is advisable for students to cross-check the information uploaded before the final submission.

IISc Bangalore UG Admission Process

• Candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria prescribed by the institute for IISc Bangalore UG admissions.

• Eligible candidates need to fill the application form via online mode.

• Candidates need to apply, appear and obtain valid scores in the national level entrance examination ( KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET-UG).

• Candidates will be notified for attending counselling based on their performance in (KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET-UG)

• The final selection of candidates will be made based on the candidates’ performance in the entrance examination, document verification and payment of the fees.

IISc Bangalore PG Admissions

Indian Institute of Science Bangalore offers 56 courses at the postgraduate level. IISc Bangalore PG courses offered are- M.Tech, M.Des Product Design and Engineering etc. Admission in M.Des Product Design and Engineering is based on the CEED/GATE scores, whereas M.Tech admissions are based on GATE scores. For some M.Tech specialisations, there will be an interview round as well.

• Students need to visit the official website of IIsc Bangalore to fill the application form for admission in M.Des and M.Tech programmes.

• Students should keep the documents ready- certificate / Mark sheets of 10th Std, 12th Std, UG Degree and/or PG Degree, a scanned image of your passport size photograph (to be uploaded), scanned image of your signature (to be uploaded), scanned pdf file of your caste certificate.

• IISc Bangalore application form is divided into four sections, each appearing inside a separate tab. The following four sections are- TAB 1- Personal Details, TAB 2- Preference of Departments, TAB 3- Details of Qualification, and TAB 4- Application fee.

• Candidates must meet the course requirements prescribed by IISc Bangalore.

• Eligible candidates need to apply, appear and obtain valid scores in GATE/CEED.

• Shortlisted candidates have to appear for a written test and interview.

• The selection criteria are as follows: 70%- GATE/CEED scores and 30%- written test and interview.

• Aspirants must meet the eligibility criteria.

• Eligible applicants need to appear and obtain a valid score in GATE.

• Admission in M.Tech courses in some disciplines such as Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Instrumentation Systems, Material Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Signal Processing is solely based on the GATE scores.

• Admission in M.Tech courses in some disciplines such as Microelectronics and VLSI Design, Climate Science, Earth Science, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Nano Science Engineering, Computational and Data Science is based on the GATE scores as well as on the performance of candidates in the written test and interview. Therefore, the selection criteria are as follows- 70% depends upon GATE scores and 30% on written test and interview.

• The final selection of candidates will be made based on the GATE score, written test and interview (as applicable), document verification and payment of the fees.

IISc Bangalore Eligibility Criteria for Doctoral Courses

IISc Bangalore Application Process for Integrated Ph.D and Ph.D. Programmes

• Aspirants must visit the IISc Bangalore official website for filling the application form.

• Aspirants must update all the required information with documents.

• IISc Bangalore application form is divided into four sections, each appearing inside a separate tab. The following four sections are- TAB 1- Personal Details, TAB 2- Preference of Departments, TAB 3- Details of Qualification, and TAB 4- Application fee.

• After checking that all the information is correct, submit the application form and pay the application fee.

IISc Bangalore Admission Process for Integrated Ph.D. Programmes

• Candidates need to meet the eligibility criteria as prescribed by IISc Bangalore.

• For Integrated Ph.D. programmes admissions, candidates must appear for JAM.

• Candidates need to fill the IISc Bangalore application form.

• Candidates will be shortlisted based on their performance in JAM and will be notified to appear in an online interview. Shortlisting for Physical Sciences is also done based on JEST.
