    Established in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science is an Institute of Eminence located in Bangalore. IISc Bangalore started its venture with the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India and the Maharaja of Mysore. IISc Bangalore has 45 departments under six divisions namely: Division of Biological Sciences, Division of Chemical Sciences, Division of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science (EECS), Division of Interdisciplinary Sciences, Division of Mechanical Sciences, Division of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has secured 2nd rank in NIRF 2021 overall ranking and 1st in the research and university categories.     Indian Institute of Science is located at CV Raman Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Kempegowda International Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 31 km that will take around 45 minutes to reach IISc Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna at a distance of 6.2 km. It will take around 12 minutes for students to reach IISc Bangalore from the railway station. Students can take a bus from APSRTC Bus Station to reach the Indian Institute of Science in 11 minutes.

    The institute has a well-maintained library containing approximately 5 lakhs volume of books. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore library is also known as J R D Tata Memorial Library.     Students are offered admission in various courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels at IISc Bangalore.
