Established in 1909, the Indian Institute of Science is an Institute of Eminence located in Bangalore. IISc Bangalore started its venture with the joint efforts of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, the Government of India and the Maharaja of Mysore. IISc Bangalore has 45 departments under six divisions namely: Division of Biological Sciences, Division of Chemical Sciences, Division of Electrical, Electronics and Computer Science (EECS), Division of Interdisciplinary Sciences, Division of Mechanical Sciences, Division of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has secured 2nd rank in NIRF 2021 overall ranking and 1st in the research and university categories. In NIRF 2020 ranking, the institute was at the top in research and university categories.

IISc Bangalore is accredited by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) with a grade of ‘A’ and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). The campus is spread over 434 acres of land. The students’ enrollment number is more than 3000. IISc Bangalore admissions are offered to its various courses in the field of Management and Business Administration, Sciences, Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering and Architecture, Computer Application and IT etc. Students need to appear for the national level entrance examination for admission in various courses at IISc Bangalore.

IISc Bangalore Location

Indian Institute of Science is located at CV Raman Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka. Kempegowda International Airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 31 km that will take around 45 minutes to reach IISc Bangalore. The nearest railway station is Krantivira Sangolli Rayanna at a distance of 6.2 km. It will take around 12 minutes for students to reach IISc Bangalore from the railway station. Students can take a bus from APSRTC Bus Station to reach the Indian Institute of Science in 11 minutes.

The institute has a well-maintained library containing approximately 5 lakhs volume of books. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore library is also known as J R D Tata Memorial Library. IISc Bangalore UG Admission Process

• Meet the eligibility criteria.

• Fill the application form via online mode.

• Students must apply, appear and obtain valid scores in the national level entrance examination ( KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET-UG).

• Students will be called for counselling based on their performance in (KVPY, JEE Main, JEE Advanced, NEET-UG)

• Admissions will be offered based on candidates’ performance in the entrance examination, document verification and payment of the fees.

IISc Bangalore Admission Process for M.Des

• Meet the course requirements.

• Apply, appear and obtain valid scores in GATE/CEED.

• Students shortlisted based on their performance in the entrance examination will have to appear in the written test and interview.

• The selection criteria are as follows: 70%- GATE/CEED scores and 30%- written test and interview.

• The final selection will be based on GATE/CEED scores, performance in the written test and interview, document verification and payment of the fees.

IISc Bangalore Admission Process for M.Tech

• Meet the eligibility criteria.

• Appear and obtain a valid score in GATE.

• Apply to the programme by visiting the IISc Bangalore website.

• Interview rounds will be conducted for some M.Tech specialisations.

• Admissions will be offered based on GATE scores, interview (as applicable), document verification and payment of the fees.

IISc Bangalore Admission Process for Integrated Ph.D. Programmes

• Meet the eligibility criteria as prescribed by IISc Bangalore.

• Candidates must appear for JAM.

• Fill the IISc Bangalore application form.

• Candidates shortlisted based on their performance in JAM will be notified for an interview.

• Selection – For Biological, Physical and Mathematical Sciences selection will be based on the combined performance in the test and in the interview. For Chemical Sciences, selection will be based only on the performance in the Interview.

• The last step in the IISc Bangalore selection process is document verification and payment of the fees.

 IISc Bangalore Admission Process for Ph.D

• Meet the eligibility criteria.

• Fill the application form by visiting the official website of IISc Bangalore.

• Shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview based on their performance in the national level entrance examination (GATE, NET JRF, GPAT) and/or the qualifying degree.

• IISc Bangalore Ph.D. admissions depend on the interview (in some of the departments, an aptitude test/preliminary interview will precede the interview/final interview).

IISc Bangalore Scholarships

Candidates that are wishing to take admission to the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore are eligible for scholarships/fellowships from CSIR/UGC/DBT/ICMR/AICTE/DAE (NBHM)/ DST as the case may be. Candidates are offered IISc Bangalore scholarships at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The value of scholarships awarded to the candidates are as follows: Ph.D- INR 31000/35000, M.Tech- INR 12400, M.Tech/M.Des- INR 12400, Integrated Ph.D-  INR16000/31000/35000. IISc Bangalore Cutoff

Candidates are offered IISc Bangalore admissions based on their performance in the national level entrance examination (GATE, CEED, JOINT CSIR UGC NET for JRF, GPAT). Once the result is announced for the national level entrance examination, IISc Bangalore releases its cutoff for various courses such as B.Sc. (Research), M.Des, M.Tech etc. The difficulty level of the exam, number of candidates appearing, previous year cutoffs are few factors that can affect the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore cutoff.
