Students are offered admission in various courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels at IISc Bangalore. Indian Institute of Science Bangalore admissions are offered in the following branches: General Management, Astronomy, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science and Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Product Design etc. Admission in B.Sc. (Research) will be offered to students based on their performance in the national entrance examination (KVPY/JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/NEET-UG). Admission in some M.Tech programmes such as M.Tech Aerospace Engineering, M.Tech Chemical Engineering, M.Tech Electrical Engineering is based on GATE scores. For such courses, admissions are based on 70% on GATE score plus 30% on interview. Students who are willing to take admission in M.Des Product Design and Engineering must note that they need to appear and obtain valid scores in CEED/GATE to be eligible for further rounds of the IISc Bangalore admission process.
Candidates are shortlisted for an interview for admission in Ph.D. programmes based on their performance in the national entrance test and/or the qualifying degree. The selection is based on the performance in the interview (in some of the departments, an aptitude test/preliminary interview will precede the interview/final interview). Admission in integrated Ph.D. programmes will be based on the performance in JAM and interview. Selection – For Biological, Physical and Mathematical Sciences selection will be based on the combined performance in the Test and in the Interview. For Chemical Sciences, selection will be based only on the performance in the Interview.
