The foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi was laid on 24th February 2009. The institute is situated in Kamand Valley in Himachal Pradesh. IIT Mandi ranked 41st in the engineering category and 82nd in the overall category in NIRF 2021 Rankings. To drive the developmental activities for IIT Mandi, a distinct IIT Mandi Cell was established in IIT Roorkee in March 2009. The issues pertaining to campus development were highlighted in a project report which was submitted to the Government of Himachal Pradesh in the month of April in that very year. In later months, the institute was registered as a society in the state of Uttarakhand. Further development plans were made for the institute under the Ministry of Education. Today the institute has developed to include courses from disciplines of science, technology to arts. The college has become a major attraction for students because of its facilities like library, hostel, internship opportunities, placements and scholarships. IIT Mandi is located in the Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh. The Kamand Valley engulfs the institute which is situated on the banks of a tributary of Beas river. The Mandi town is not far away from the village in which IIT Mandi is situated – only 14 km away. The climate varies from one month to another due to the high elevation of the land. Nevertheless, the scenic beauty and the shops, markets, restaurants, parks, banks, and other amenities surrounding the institute makes it a comfortable spot.
Researchers of IIT Mandi have introduced new Photocatalysts that convert plastics to hydrogen and other useful products when exposed to lights. It can also be used for photoreforming of food waste and other biomass and also for breaking down pollutants in water.

IIT Mandi’s Central Library has over 13000 books and allows access to more than 3000 e-journals. Audio-visual materials as CDs and DVDs are also available for students and faculty members. There are four virtual classrooms in IIT Mandi. The cyber centre is well equipped with 404 Intel Xeon processors with a memory of more than 1 TB. IIT Mandi has a medical clinic that is well equipped with doctors, nurses and pharmacists to provide healthcare facilities at almost all times. The Institute consists of several hostels – for girls and boys. These hostels provide accommodation to UG and PG students. There are also staff and faculty quarters on the campus. Step 1: The placement cell performs the duty of a negotiator and connects the interested candidates with the organisation by sending invitations of the placement drive along with the placement brochure to esteemed companies and organizations.
Step 2: The organisations who show interest in IIT Mandi’s Placement drive accept the invitation and confirm their active presence on the scheduled date of the drive.
Step 3: The organisation will send the eligibility criteria required for the selection process, the designation of the candidate, CTC and other relevant details about the recruitment.

IIT Mandi also runs an initiative called the Advanced Materials Research Centre (AMRC) which provides research facilities that are solely aimed to deal with specialisations like advanced materials, energy, electronics, environment, among others. The Indian Institute of Technology Mandi also hosts many competitions in their workshops of mechanical engineering. Additionally, a student’s counsel is also set up in the campus that ensures the well-being of its students. The campus is also well equipped with various sports fields like indoor badminton courts, football and cricket fields along with a table tennis hall and a swimming pool. This is due to the importance sports and other co-curricular activities hold for the institute. Currently, the college is also building a hockey ground with a kiosk, and other fields like new tennis, volleyball, and basketball courts. Other than that, students also enjoy music and other arts in the college where various talent competitions are held. Being in a hilly area, the college does not have malls or theatres in the vicinity.

I haven't really been to campus to comment on it's infrastructure, but from what I have heard it has almost all facilities a students need labs, gym, ground and sports facilities etc...................
Best college and best in location. Awesome view and study being close to the nature. If you love to be the space close to science and nature this is the place for you must come and see it once........
Wifi speed is 20 - 30 Mbps. However, you can't play games or torrents. Labs are of top quality with all new instruments and safety systems. Our Nanotechnology lab is one of the best labs for the department in Asia. A massive library building is under construction right now. There are different hostels for students of different years. The quality of mess food served is very good. There are two canteens in North Campus and 7-8 canteens in South Campus. South campus has many playgrounds also.

IIT MANDI is a Government Institute of National Importance. It is UGC approved institute and comes under the category of new IIT's.
The institute don't offers the course of BTech in Software Engineering, but if you wish to be a software engineer after studying from IIT MANDI, then you need to do the course of B.Tech Computer Science and Engineering . Most of the software engineers in India are from the CSE branch and this is the course which is studied for being a software engineer.
The admission to the course of BTech CSE is provided on the basis of JEE Advanced .
