Sociology as a discipline deals with the study of human society and how people live and interact with each other in society. It enables the student to view the social structure and practices as a whole, making it one of the most sought after courses by students and potential employers.
The Department is committed to providing practical and technical skills. It is focused on training students in quantitative and qualitative research, through fieldwork and research projects that the students shall have to complete as part of the program. The curriculum is designed to provide a holistic approach to society by combining several social institutions and practices within culture, religion, economy, polity, family, media and development.
Students will complete courses through the semesters that help develop critical thinking and apply sociological knowledge in programs for social and organizational development. It will develop analytical and critical and non-judgemental thinking, and make students more scientific, logical and empathetic. The program has been streamlined to serve as a springboard for careers in almost all social and developmental fields and further specialization in a diverse number of fields including developmental studies, law, management studies, media, and popular culture, gender studies.
Criteria for Preparation of Merit list:
A candidate must have Pass in 10+2 / equivalent examination with at least 50% marks in aggregate from any recognized board.
