NID Ahmedabad: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

Established in the year 1951, National Institute of Design (NID) Ahmedabad is a public university. It works autonomously under the Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. The university has been declared as an ‘Institute of National Importance’ by the Act of Parliament, by virtue of the National Institute of Design Act 2014. The varsity has 64 faculty members in total. NID Ahmedabad offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes. The university offers a total of 17 courses. 

Admission to all the courses other than Ph.D programmes is done based on marks obtained by candidates in NID DAT. It is mandatory for candidates to clear both prelims and mains of NID DAT to take admission in National Institute of Design Ahmedabad. For admission to Ph.D courses, the varsity conducts Design Research Test (DRT) and a personal interview. Students enrolled in B.Des and M.Des programmes can avail numerous state level and national level scholarships. NID Ahmedabad has a placement cell to provide maximum placement opportunities to students. The university has collaborations with a large number of foriegn universities and institutions. The facilities and infrastructure at the campus are upgraded as per the latest standard.

NID Ahmedabad Facilities and Infrastructure

To provide a comfortable learning environment to students, the university has a large number of facilities and modern infrastructure at the campus. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad facilities ensure overall growth of students. The university has separate accommodation facilities for boys and girls students, a library with a rich collection of books, modern gym, furnished classrooms etc. The campus has wifi connectivity for students and faculty members. The dispensary in the university premises provides medical consultation to students. NID Ahmedabad facilities list also includes a guest house, laboratories, robust IT infrastructure and sports facilities. The university has sports facilities for both indoor and outdoor games.

NID Ahmedabad Courses

A total of 17 courses are offered by the university at UG, PG and doctoral levels. A few of the National Institute of Design Ahmedabad courses are B.Des Animation Film Design, B.Des Ceramic and Glass Design, M.Des Product Design, Ph.D Design etc. The duration of all the NID Ahmedabad UG courses is 4 years. Whereas, National Institute of Design Ahmedabad PG courses are of 2.5 years duration. The varsity provides full time and part time prorgammes.

National Institute of Design Ahmedabad Admission

The university offers admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses. NID Ahmedabad admission to B.Des and M.Des courses is given based on the marks obtained by candidates in NID DAT. Furthermore, candidates need to participate in NID DAT counselling for B.Des and M.Des programmes admission. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad admission to Ph.D course is done on the basis of candidates' scores in the Design Research Test (DST). NID Ahmedabad Scholarship

The university offers a variety of scholarships to students with exceptional academic records. Furthermore, National Institute of Design Ahmedabad scholarships are also offered to students from north east region and students who are from financially weaker sections of the society. The university is registered at the national scholarship portal. Thereby, students of the varsity can apply for state level and national level scholarships. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad Cutoff

To take admission to Bachelor of Design (B.Des) course, candidates must obtain a valid score in NID DAT. NID Ahmedabad cutoff is the closing ranks of NID DAT. It must be noted that, in order to enroll into B.Des programme, candidates must meet the National Institute of Design Ahmedabad cut off requirements. The cutoff of the university is different for each category of students and it changes every year.

The placements of the students are looked after by the placement cell of the university. National Institute of Design Ahmedabad placement cell interacts with corporates and provides maximum number of placement opportunities to students. To ensure a large number of students are placed every, the placement cell organised industrial training. NID Ahmedabad placement cell also conducts industry interface programmes. It helps the companies in finding the right candidates for jobs and vice versa.
