The Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur (OSOU) was established in 2015. It is the 15th and the most recent open university in India. The university was established to provide quality education to all sections of the society. The university focuses on education, research and training through the use of updated technology and makes education affordable for the backward and economically weaker sections of the society. 

The Odisha State Open University, Sambalpur (OSOU) provides various programs at the diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The university is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
