Established in 1918, Osmania University was founded by Nawab Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad. OU Hyderabad is the seventh oldest university in India, the third oldest in south India. Osmania University is a state university accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of A+. There are almost 500 colleges (both government and private) affiliated to Osmania University that offer various technical and non-technical courses at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Osmania University offers UG programmes, PG programmes, postgraduate diploma, research programmes and certificate programmes. In NIRF 2021 Ranking, Osmania University has been ranked 62nd in the overall category. For the university category, Osmania University has been ranked 32 in the NIRF ranking 2021 whereas the varsity was ranked 29 in the same category for the year 2020.

There are 5 constituent colleges of Osmania University namely University College for Women, Nizam College, University College of Science, Saifabad, University PG College, Secunderabad, and PG College of Law Basheerbagh. Osmania University has established 12 faculties composed of various departments. Some of them are the Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Business Management, Faculty of Commerce, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law etc. The university is recognised by University Grants Commission (UGC). The university is spread over 1300 acres of land, consisting of more than 30,000 students. Osmania University has collaborated with various institutions such as College of Defense Management Sainikpuri, ONGC, Dehradun, Mahasarakham University, Mahasarakham, Thailand, Chief Electoral Officer, Andhra Pradesh to name a few.

Osmania University Location

The university is located in Hyderabad, Telangana State, India. The best-known landmark of the university is ‘Arts College’. Students can take a bus from Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS, Hyderabad; earlier known as Imlibun Bus Stand) and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS, Secunderabad) which will take around 8-10 minutes to reach OU Hyderabad. The nearest railway station is Hyderabad Railway Station that will take around 10 minutes to reach the university. Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad is the nearest airport to the university at a distance of 40 km. It will take around 40-50 minutes to reach Osmania University.

The university offers adequate facilities to the students. The main library is well stocked with books, journals, periodicals etc. A library in the university/college plays an important role as it is a place where students can meet their information needs and faculty caters to their research requirements. Students who have taken admission to various programmes at Osmania University need not worry about accommodation as the university offers accommodation facilities in the form of hostels. In total, there are four separate hostels for boys and girls. Osmania University Admissions

Students are offered Osmania University admissions to its various courses. Osmania University admissions are offered at UG, PG and doctoral levels. OU Hyderabad admissions are offered in streams like computer application and IT, sciences, medicine and allied sciences, education, hospitality and tourism. Osmania University admission process depends on the nature of the course as well as the level. For some courses such as B.A., B.Com, the admission is based on merit whereas for courses such as M.Com, M.Sc. there is an entrance test- CPGET conducted by Osmania University.

• Eligible candidates must fill CPGET application form in an online mode 

• Pay the application fee.

• Students qualifying for CPGET must attend the counselling.

• Selection will be based on the performance of candidates in CPGET, counselling, document verification and payment of the fees.

Osmania University Scholarships

Students studying and willing to take admission at Osmania University can apply for various Osmania University scholarships. The university believes that scholarships are one such way of providing financial support to the student to continue their studies. Some of the Osmania University scholarships are Telangana Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for SC/ST/BC/Disabled Welfare, Economically Poor People Scholarship (EPP). Apart from these, students can also apply to various national and state-level scholarships. Students who want to avail the scholarships need to meet the eligibility criteria. Benefits of a particular scholarship vary from scholarship to scholarship such as  Ishan Uday - Special Scholarship Scheme For North Eastern Region offers five thousand four hundred per month, whereas PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship For Single Girl Child offers thirty-six thousand two hundred per annum.

Osmania University Cutoff

Postgraduate and postgraduate diploma admissions are offered based on candidates' performance in CPGET. A merit list is released by Osmania University based on the CPGET cutoff and marks scored by the students. An online counselling session is conducted after the CPGET cutoff is released. It must be noted that the CPGET cutoff is the last rank that a student must obtain for Osmania University admissions. There are various factors that affect Osmania University cutoff such as students appearing in the CPGET, the difficulty level of the exam, last years’ cutoff etc.

The Directorate of Placement Services, Osmania University is responsible for taking care of Osmania University placements. The main objectives of this office are to locate suitable job opportunities for students, organising various placements activities, preparing students for final rounds etc. Osmania University placemats are carried out in a systematic manner which includes sending invitations to companies, fixing of date and time of campus visits, pre-placements, written test, group discussions and interview and final placements. The average salary offered to students at OU Hyderabad after the UG course in 2019-20 was INR 6.66 lakhs.
