ApplyStarted in 1984, Pondicherry Engineering College is an esteemed college that is funded entirely by the government of Puducherry. It started as a part of the VIIth five-year plan but has been continued to be promoted by the government. The college is one of the most reputed colleges in Puducherry with its affiliation to Pondicherry University. Ratings-wise, the PEC Puducherry lets the numbers do the talking. The college has been ranked 144 in the NIRF rankings 2021 when it comes to the engineering category. PEC offers a lot of engineering and professional courses for interested candidates. It is essentially a public college and is approved by the AICTE (All India Council of Technical Education).
The college is fairly located in a busy spot in the city. It is about 10.4 km away from its nearest bus stand and Puducherry airport 10.8 kms away. The nearest railway station is 11 kms away. If you look for it, it would be fairly easy to find with its location situated on the East Coast Road in the Pillaichavadi district of Pondicherry. For people who come from farther distances, the college provides facilities to ease their commute to the campus.
● The college recently hosted an online inaugural function for the start of the first year B. Tech. students. This took place on 25th January 2021 for the batch 2020-24.

PEC is one of the most reputable colleges in its area. This also owes to its alumnus that has proven to shine on passing out from the college. A few notable names include Ragy Thomas, Shushrut Badhe, Bulusu Krishna Chaitanya. Ragy Thomas is the CEO of Sprinklr where Shushrut Badhe went on to become a very popular author. Bulusu Krishna Chaitanya is also a notable assistant professor now.
The institute prides in having many committees and clubs. It also has the Google DSC which is a club available only in a few colleges in the country. Additionally, it also has a committee for the safety of women and children. The college also has a cultural club that hosts all the events that happen in the college. Other than that, there are not many clubs in the college.
The college is well equipped with a lot of facilities and is proud of being a government college that is accredited by NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) and NBA(National Board of Accreditation) alike. Some of its major facilities include:
Hostel: Hostels are provided with both boys and girls in the college. There are three hostels for boys including the graduating and post-graduate courses and one hostel for girls. Each hostel has a capacity of 60 rooms and is furnished modestly.
Sports Facilities: Pondicherry Engineering College boasts in hosting the year-end Sports cup which is an event for the various players in the college. The students are encouraged to take part in various games by the means of setting a great ground for many sports.
Library: The institute also supports a library. It contains all the books from the various available courses including BTech, MTech, PhD, MCA, MSc, etc. Other than that, it also has books from other genres to engage the book readers and help them find their niche in the college library. Like other libraries, there are adequate systems of issuing books as and whenever required by the students.
Medical Facilities: The Pondicherry Engineering College tries to secure the students’ health and maintains a medical facility right on the campus. This helps get an easy reach in case of any unforeseen emergencies faced by the students or the faculty. The dispensary also has staff nurses and a residing medical officer for any issue brought up by the students. In this way, the institute helps the student reach medical help as soon as they might require it.
Laboratories: In UG and PG courses especially for engineering colleges, good facilities of laboratories are always a prerequisite for proper education. PEC has best-of-breed equipment in all its departmental laboratories so that the students learn best from their practical experience.
Cafeteria: The campus of PEC is also provided with a cafeteria that serves healthy and hygienic foods on a pocket-friendly budget.
Guest Rooms: PEC has a very well-maintained guest house. The parents of the students can come and live in the guest house at a concessional rent but prior information has to be given. The guest house currently has 12 rooms and 2 air-conditioned rooms.
Auditorium: The college has one big auditorium for all the big seminars and events. In case of departmental events, they take place in the respective seminar halls of the department which are also big and well-furnished.
ATM: There is a branch of Canara Bank inside the college campus and an ATM of the same at the main entrance of the college.
The Pondicherry Engineering college offers many courses in engineering, architecture, IT, and sciences. The graduate courses are offered after you have completed your higher-secondary education or something with similar qualification and passed the JEE exam. Additionally, the postgraduate courses are offered after having completed graduation and appearing for GATE.

The admissions for the various programmes in Pondicherry Engineering College happens through a well-layered procedure. For the graduation courses, you have to appear for the JEE exam and then go for the JoSAA counselling. Through this, you would be eligible to grab a seat in the college. Pondicherry Engineering College provides the Post-Matric scholarship that is eligible for SC students in the Puducherry domicile. The students who fit the criteria have their fees waived off. Also, they don’t have to pay for any non-refundable activities.
The college also provides free laptops and computers to the students undergoing the UG and PG courses provided that they belong to the SC community.
In this way, the college eases the financial burden on minorities by helping them out. Students who have qualified gate are also eligible to apply for the AICTE fellowship through the college itself.
The cutoff ranks of the college have become high since the college is turning out to be a favoured college by many students. The seats of the various courses are also limited. Many top firms came to the campus to hire students and the maximum package has been Rs. 10 LPA while maintaining an average of Rs. 4 LPA in 2019.

The college has a good infrastructure . Placements: Almost 90% of the students from our course got placed. The highest salary offered is 15 lacs per @nnum and the lowest salary offered is Rs..rs 4 lakh per annum .
The college is ranked 49th. It belongs to tier-2 colleges. Not as good as the IIT's and NIT's but a decent state level government institution.
