Sri Ramachandra Educational and Health Trust established the university in 1985 as the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute. In 1994, the Indian government designated the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research as a deemed university. University Grants Commission (UGC) recognition is given to the Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research. The university has received grade A++ accreditation from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals (NABH), AERB, NABL, and ISO 9001:2000 certifications all accredit the university. The goals of SRIHER are to foster competent professionals and obedient members of society while achieving excellence in health care, education, and research.

The university's placement cell assists in the placement of final-year students. Additionally, it offers a variety of pre-placement training sessions, including workshops, seminars, mock interviews, guest lectures, and industrial visits.
