On Monday, CSIR-NIIST, Thiruvananthapuram, unveiled an automated biomedical waste conversion rig at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.
It provides a cost-effective and sustainable substitute for traditional biomedical waste treatment techniques like incineration.
This method makes waste disposal more inexpensive and efficient by breaking down and neutralizing hazardous biological waste, such as blood, urine, sputum, and laboratory disposables.
The system's capacity to give ordinarily foul-smelling poisonous waste a pleasant scent makes it unique and makes handling and disposal safer and easier.
The system was introduced on Monday and has a 400 kilogram daily capacity. In its early stages, it can process up to 10 kg of biodegradable medical waste per day.
