UGC Policy
Accelerated and extended degree programmes will help students earn the same credits but at their own pace
Story: Atul Krishna Image: FreepikThe UGC’s new policy allows universities to lift time limits on undergraduate degree programmes. Students can now set their own pace.

EDP allows them to slow down by taking fewer credits than standard
Under ADP, students can complete
4-year degree in 6 semesters
3-year degree in 5 semesters
EDP allows students to complete
4-year degree in 5 years
3-year degree in 4 years
Universities must earmark 10% of seats for ADP candidates. Degrees earned through ADP or EDP will be equivalent to the standard degree.
ADP and EDP are made possible by the National Credit Framework (NCrF), offering flexible pace for completing education by awarding credits for courses.
