Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education, Kottayam, Kerala is a renowned institution the essence of which lies in preparing the future of education. This is a women college which started in 1953 and for the next almost seven decades, the college has been training educationist. Occupying the fairly small piece of land of about 3 acres the college allows for the students to have focused learning atmosphere. It was an affiliated college recognised by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE); it offered high standard teachers training programmes.

Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education has many facilities which are tailored towards ensuring that students in the college get the best out of their college learning. At the same time, a school library with more than 19,210 books, 25 various periodicals, as well as numerous electronic resources are placed at the students’ disposal. The language laboratory where all the lessons are digitalised enables efficient training for individual skills which is important since most teachers teach individually in the future. For physical health, the college has a playground, as well as a functional gym facility for the students’ use. These are Academic seminars that can accommodate one thousand people this part of the building consists of an auditorium for seminars, workshops and cultural activities. 

Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education offers two full-time courses: programmes include a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and a Master of Education (M.Ed ) programme. Both the programmes have been designed for two years and for fifty students each making a total of one hundred seats in both the courses. Total enrolment in the college equals the number of students intake capacity hence suggesting capacity utilisation in the college.

Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education, Kottayam is a reputed women's college for the training of future teachers. Currently, the college provides two full-time teacher education programs: Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Master of Education (M.Ed).  The college, as already mentioned, follows a structured admission process defined by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) with regards to B.Ed admissions. The State Government of Kerala manages the seat allotment through a Statewide Merit List prepared by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology for B.Ed admissions. This serves to maintain an advantage to both merit as well as selectivity.

In the case of admissions to M.Ed, the university operates a dual-method admission system. Of the total seats, 50% are allocated through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP), which is organized by the University, whereas the other half is reserved for Management Quota. The Management Quota is allotted by the educational agency based on the rank list provided by the University in which criteria are implemented for consideration of representation of community itself and provision for economically weaker and disadvantaged sections of society. Interested candidates should know that the admission season generally runs with the academic calendar, which begins every year around June-July.

Application Process

The application process for Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education differs according to the program

For the B.Ed Program:

  1. The candidate must apply through the centralized admission process which is conducted by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology.
  2. Fill the online application form running in LBS Centre website.
  3. Upload necessary documents like academic certificates and other necessary documents.
  4. Pay the application fee as mentioned.
  5. Wait for publication of the Statewide Merit List for selection purposes.
  6. Admission will be finished once the candidate presents himself for document verification and admission formalities at the college, if selected.

For M.Ed Program

1. For CAP seats (50%):

  • For admission, apply through the Centralized Admission Process organized by the University.
  • Fill in the online application form in the University website.
  • Upload necessary documents and pay the application fee.
  • Level Standardized entrance or interview as required by the University.
  • Complete the admission process at the college if selected.

2. For these Management Quota seats (50%):

  • Application form can be directly obtained from Mount Carmel College of Teacher Education.
  • Fill in the application form of the college ( which is obtainable from the college website or personally)
  • Attach and submit all the required documents such as academic certificates, experience certificates (if any), and other relevant credentials. 
  • Pay as specified by the college regarding the application fee.
  • Selection will be based on the rank list of the University within the college's criteria
  •  If selected, admission formalities will be fulfilled by the college.

Documents usually needed for both the courses:

  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and certificates
  • For B.Ed, graduation mark sheets and degree certificate
  • For M.Ed, it is B.Ed mark sheets and A Degree certificate

  • Recently taken passport-size photograph
  • Caste/Category certificate (if applicable)

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Ed (Bachelor of Education): B.Ed studies in Mount Carmel College for Teacher Education adopt the admission process set forth by the State Government of Kerala. Important features related to the admission process are:

  1. Seat allotment through the Statewide Merit List prepared by the LBS Centre for Science and Technology
  2. 85% of seats are filled through centralized admission process.
  3. 15% of seats are under Management Quota that institution caters towards economically weaker and disadvantaged sections of society.
  4. Eligibility norms are generally having bachelor degree-in related subjects, as per NCTE norms.

M.Ed (Master of Education): Admission procedure differs for M.Ed program:

  1. Total approved intake is 50 seats.
  2. 50% of the seats (25) are filled under merit through the Centralized Admission Process (CAP) initiated by the University.
  3. These merit seats consist of reservations for SC/ST/SEBC/Sports/Teacher Quota and PD Quota. 
  4. 25 seats are Management Quota
  5. Management seats are filled from the rank list of the University without any consideration of rank given to the admitters.
  6. General eligibility requires having an B.Ed degree with the minimum marks as required by the University

admission to MEd is done in two ways, first through centralized admission process for merit based 50% seats and rest of the 50% is for management quota seats,

the eligibility criteria is passed bachelor of education from a recognized university securing 55% aggregate,
