St Xavier’s College of Education, Thanjavur, is a committed institute founded in the year 2005 and is aimed at maintaining the future of education. This co-educational college is set in the city of Kumbakonam in Tamil Nadu, India, and the college occupies a large area of eight acres. Affiliated with the university, it has not only government recognition but also the recognition of the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), thereby having a fine professional teacher education system. The institute has two courses with a total intake of 205 students and with 20 faculties, which easily provide personal interaction with students.
St Xavier’s College of Education is affiliated with Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University, Chennai. One of the key features of St Xavier's College of Education is an elaborate admission of infrastructure aimed at the development of students’ learning facilities. The library is functioning for 365 days a year with 6438 books of 2537 titles connected to the wards and 100 printed journals for each B.Ed and M.Ed section. The campus provides well-equipped modern laboratories such as Science, Educational Psychology, Educational technologist, smart class and Language laboratory. For physical fitness and recreation, students are provided with a well-equipped playground with standard courts for most sports and games and a gym. It has also provided clean and comfortable hostels for both boys and girls for the outstation students.
St Xavier's College of Education offers two full-time courses, a Bachelors in Education (B.Ed) and Masters in Education (M.Ed), both taking two academic years. The B.Ed. stream has a capacity of 100 admissions, while the M.Ed. programme has a total of 50 seats available. Its aim is to develop qualified, competent and professionally prepared teachers who are willing to make a difference in the area of specialised teaching.
Admission to SXCET is given on the basis of merit, the marks which the candidates have scored in the qualifying or entrance examination. For the B.Ed. programme, the admissions are undertaken based on the policy of admission prescribed by the State Government/U.T. Administration and the University. The M.Ed. programme also does adopt a similar pattern while following the policies of the State Government, Central Government, University or UT administration whereverapplicable.
