What is the full form of IEO?

IEO Stands for International English Olympiad. The International English Olympiad (IEO) conducted by the Science Olympiad Foundation(SOF) is an English language and Grammar competition across the globe for the students of class 1 to class 12 who have passed the International English language test conducted worldwide. Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) supports student’s intellectual growth through various competitions and Olympiads. This test determines the level of knowledge of English In the students.

The International English Olympiad exam is conducted once a year. The main mission and vision of the exam is to Educate and upskill student's skills in English. The exam is divided into two levels(1 and 2). Level 1 is for students of classes 1 to 12 and Level 2 is for students of classes 3 to 12.

Why IEO?

The International English Olympiad is one of the renowned exams which motivates students to develop language skills and it's evident that English is the most demanded language in today’s world. Students from all over the nation can participate and try to compete to win the contest. Thus, IEO becomes the right choice for students in school and college to improve both their communication and writing skills.

Since 2000, The Science Olympiad Foundation(SOF) has been conducting this exam in India every year with many students participating in it and improving their skills.

Eligibility Criteria of IEO

The International English Olympiad exam welcomes each and every student of classes 1 to 12 irrespective of gender, race, caste, or nationality. If a student is enrolled in a Science Olympiad Foundation(SOF) approved school, the student can apply and compete in this exam. They must fill out the application form entirely and send it to the school along with the required payment.

Exam Pattern of IEO

This exam will be conducted in an offline manner. The exam pattern consists of two-levels of exam and has various criteria for different students. It's a 1-hour exam that consists of MCQs of four sections - Word and Structure knowledge (Section 1), Reading (Section 2), Spoken & Written Expression (Section 3) and Achievers Section (Section 4). The exam will be conducted in the English Language and based on CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board Syllabus.

The participation fee for the exam is just Rs. 125 per student. The award for the winner is up to Rs. 50,000 along with a Gold Medal and a performance certificate.

IEO Syllabus

The International English Olympiad(IEO) Syllabus is designed in such a way that it enhances the student’s fundamental English skills by parenting a diverse range of questions in the Exam.

For Level 1 Criteria

  • There are no set standards or minimum score requirements. Any student in grades 1 to 12 is qualified to take the test.

  • However, the school must be connected to a recognized educational authority, such as CBSE, ICSE,state boards etc.

For Level 2 Criteria

Only the students, who have secured good rank in the level-1 exam, from class 3-12 are allowed to appear for Level-2 and the eligibility criteria for Level-2 exam are decided at different levels:

  • Only the top 5% Students who have secured good rank from each class are qualified.

  • In State/Zone Level, For each class Top 25 rank holders of Level 1 are qualified.

  • And Finally on the condition that minimum 10 students appear from a school, the class topper who has scored at least 50% can appear for level 2.

Thus, All the above three criterias must be there for a student to qualify for Level-2 examination class wise.

Ranking Criteria

The Students who participated in the exam are qualified in the exam based on the marks in Level 1. After the First level of the test, students could prioritise themselves academically at four different levels like within the school, at the zone/state level, and above all at the International level.

The Grade 1 and Grade 2 students are not required to appear for the 2nd level exam and are ranked on the basis of their performance in the first level exam.
