What is Registered Jack?

Registered Jack is a standard configuration of the telecommunication network interface which is used for the association of voice and data equipment. The main function of the Registered Jack is that it connects different data equipment and telecommunication devices with the services like long and short exchange carriers. For the installation of the registered jack, two connectors are used-they are modulator connector and a ribbon connector. It is used as a medium in telecommunication and also used as a network interface. Registered Jack is also used to connect the different computers in the Local Area Network (LAN).

Types of Registered Jack

There are different types of Registered Jacks. They are as follows.

• RJ-11: This is a four-wire or six-wire registered jack that is used to connect phone lines with the divider plates. It is mainly used in houses and workplaces where old phone systems are connected to the Internet Service provider.

• RJ-14: RJ-14 is similar to the RJ-11 and it is used separately for 2 lines and 4 lines respectively.

• RJ-21: It is used as a networking interface that uses cables and twisted wires and a 50-pin connector is used at the end of the cables.

• RJ-25: It is a connector that is used for one telephone wire. It has the capacity to hold six wires for up to three telephone wires.

• RJ-45: It is one of the most important registered jacks that associates the unshielded twisted pair and shielded twisted pair cabling. It is an 8-wire telephone type that is used for connecting patch panels, computers and other networking components.

• RJ-48: It uses a similar jack as the RJ-45 but uses different pinning types that is one wire is used for transmitting signals and the other is used for receiving signals.
