College of Fisheries, Ratnagiri, was established in the year 1981 and is one of the constituent colleges of the Maharashtra, devoted exclusively to fisheries education. The institute is situated in Shirgaon, Ratnagiri, and the institute occupies a total land area of 35.83 acres. Although it is an autonomous body, the programmes are recognised by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and it provides the complete spectrum of programmes in fisheries science or bio resources .
College of Fisheries has a total student enrolment of 220 and has six professors teaching in the college. This is because the college is a co-educational institution a factor that implies that both boys and girls are allowed to learn all that is taught here. The college has all the necessary faculties to accommodate it’s academic courses. The library has a collection of 12,500 books including textbooks and reference books, 15 Indian journals in print and five foreign journals in online version annually. It also holds 315 theses of PG/Ph.D. discipline. The campus facilities include affiliated department laboratories to allow students be more inclined to a practical session. Hostel accommodation is available for male and female students.
