Department of Law University of Calcutta, one of the renowned colleges in Kolkata for law and legal studies. The Department of Law CU Kolkata was established in January 1909 (originally as University College of Law), the Department of Law at the University of Calcutta is one of India’s oldest law institutions. This college was accredited by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and operating under the aegis of an Institution of Eminence which means the educational guidance is provided by the University Grants Commission.
The department offers a five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons) programme, and a two-year LLM postgraduate degree. The LLM curriculum encompasses specialisations in Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, International Law, Human Rights, Intellectual Property Rights, Cyber Law, and more. Doctoral research (PhD) in various legal disciplines is also available, fostering advanced scholarship and academic inquiry.
Admissions to the integrated and three-year law programmes are based on scores in the Calcutta University Law Entrance Test (CULET), while LL.M. candidates are selected on the basis of LL.B. performance and a departmental entrance examination. Ph.D aspirants must qualify UGC-NET/JRF/SET or clear the university’s written test and viva-voce.

The Department of Law University of Calcutta admissions are offered at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. Department of Law CU admissions are offered in 3 different programmes namely, BA LLB (Hons), LLM and PhD in Law. All the courses are offered for full time, wherein the integrated BALLB course is offered for the duration of 5 years, LLM and PhD courses are offered for the duration of 2 years each.
Department of Law CU Admissions to all courses are based on qualifying entrance examinations. For undergraduate and postgraduate courses, students need to appear for CULET entrance exams. But the Department of Law CU Kolkata admits only those candidates who are eligible to appear for examinations. For UG programmes 10+2 HS pass is mandatory with the required passing percentage. For postgraduate, it is mandatory to pass LLB-related degrees, and for PhD courses it is mandatory to pass LLM with the required percentage.

The infrastructure is good with well maintain libraries computer labs and hostel facilities available for students. The campus environment is one of the highlights is vibrant ye disciplined offering a nice blend of academic and extra curricular engagement. Their consists of a canteen which has all the necessary food items needed for everyday travelling students. There are washrooms in every floor and is divided into boys and girls washroom which are pretty much kept clean.
