Department of Law, University of Calcutta, Kolkatta was established in 1909. The college initially adopted the University of London pattern, and later modified it according to the constitution. Department of Law, University of Calcutta offers courses at UG, PG, and Doctoral levels. The University of Calcutta, Department of Law courses include BA LLB, LLM, and Ph.D Law. University of Calcutta admissions to BA LLB is through the Calcutta University Entrance Exam. 

Department of Law, University of Calcutta has an entrance examination for LLM. The only eligibility criteria for LLM admission is to pass the Bachelor of Law. University of Calcutta admissions to Ph. D. program is through an entrance examination comprising BA LLB and LLM syllabus. However, candidates who have passed JRF/NET/SET are exempt from the entrance examination.
