Located on six acres of land, the institute has two specialised courses in special education; in total, it admits 60 students. One of the comprehensive full-time courses in vogue National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities is the Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) in Special Education. This programme aims to train teachers specifically intended for students affected by visual impairment. Like other disciplines of study, eligibility and merit shall form the basis of admission into the B.Ed Special Education course. Such merit is based on the aggregate obtainable in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities admission may involve any other method prescribed by the state government, union territory administration, or the affiliated university. This course has an approved intake of 30 per annum.
D.Ed in Special Education is the second course that National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities offers. Similar to the B.Ed course, admission into the D.Ed in Special Education is based on merit. Selection is based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or entrance examination. The National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities admission may also comprise any other method of selection as per the policy of the state government or UT administration. This programme also admits 30 students yearly.
