The Indian Apparel industry has undergone many changes. The domestic industry has expanded rapidly and has become organized and intensely competitive. Organizations now have specific goals and objectives and each professional is expected to contribute to the bottom line. The process of sourcing, manufacturing, marketing, distributing and retailing fashion garments is a highly specialized one.
This program aims to equip the student with a broad range of competencies suitable for employment in the fashion business in India. The fashion business industry requires deep and intensive knowledge of the fashion product and extensive management, business skills and e- commerce. The scope of the course is to enable students to either be independent entrepreneur or be employable in business of fashion and lifestyle. To service the fashion and lifestyle industry effectively there are four key areas where there needs to be an enhanced focus. One is the ability to understand the changing needs of the markets, the second is an understanding of the organization and its relationship with the environment, the third is the strategic understanding of the fashion products (apparel, accessories, lifestyle, home etc). In this course theory and application based problems solving methods are employed to deliver these specialized skills.
This course transforms students into trained professionals who later play the roles of buyers, category managers, and retail operation managers and are essential to all manufacturers / brands / retailers. Recent developments in the industry demands that future professionals understand and handle the new format of marketing which is changing to digital. Hence, this course has added learnings where the students will acquire additional skills to be tech savvy and be able to handle the emerging online consumers and social marketing. Students are exposed to fashion business industry by the means of various domestic industry trips within country, Master Classes by who’s who of the industry, ‘Inspire Series – A talk by celebrity ‘, Live industry projects. The student experiences a smooth transition from classroom to corporate.
