About SD College Ambala

Sanatan Dharma College was established at Lahore in 1916. The college was re-established at Ambala Cantonment in 1948. Dr Rajinder Prasad, the 1st President of India, laid the foundation stone of the present building in 1951. In 1948 the Defence Ministry of India provided 14 acres of land in Ambala Cantonment for the college building. The institution was inaugurated by the first Speaker of Indian Parliament, Sh G. V. Mavlaonkar. 

The College offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD courses in art, commerce and science. The College is recognised as the College With Potential For Excellence. This scheme was introduced by the University Grants Commission (UGC) which encourages selected Universities to reach world-class standards in their chosen domain(s) and provide additional funds to them to reach the target. Anti Ragging Committee: This committee of S.D College, Ambala ensures there is no ragging happening on the campus and the college is in compliance with the provisions of the regulations as well as the provisions of the law concerning ragging is in force. 

Youth Red Cross: The vision of the Youth Red Cross is to become a leading humanitarian organization serving vulnerable people. The members of the club regularly take part in the various events and promote humanitarian services in society.

Red Ribbon Club: The aim of the club is to harness the potential of the youth by equipping them with correct information on mental health, substance abuse nutrition and reproductive health and building their capacities as peer educators in spreading messages on positive health. 

Women Cell: The WC cell of S.D College, Ambala was established to address the practical issues related to the welfare of and equal opportunities for women faculty members, staff and students.

Entrepreneurial Cell:  The objective of the cell of S.D College, Ambala is to provide various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs. It fosters better linkages between industries and R and D activities of the college and promotes innovation through the establishment of incubation centre. The cell regularly organizes camps, seminars, workshops, industrial visits and other developmental programmes.

NSS: The motto of NSS is “NOT ME BUT YOU”. This expresses the essence of democratic living, and appreciation of the other man’s point of view. This underlines that the welfare of the individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole. Therefore, it should be the aim of the NSS to demonstrate this motto in its day-to-day programs. NSS volunteers of the college actively take part in a variety of activities, which include blood donation, HIV-AIDS awareness, family life education, functional literacy, help for the visually impaired, college-campus cleanliness, skill development and leadership and personality development. 

Skill Development  Programmes (SDP): The college has opened up a Skill Development Centre under the UGC Scheme of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Centre for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Ability and livelihood (Kaushal). Under this programme, students are trained in market-oriented programmes. SDP organise the training programmes on personality development and communication skills and help students to prepare better for the recruitment process. The SDP promotes entrepreneurship among the students as entrepreneurship plays an important role in the country's economic development. It is useful for the process of industrialisation and economic growth. The rate of economic progress of a nation depends upon its rate of entrepreneurship development in the people. Education requires entrepreneurship development awareness to promote entrepreneurship for building the nation. SDP provides various information with reference to starting a business to budding student entrepreneurs and to create entrepreneurial culture among students. The college infrastructure is very good.It has lot of tree for better environment .the canteen is spacious and it has well equiped infrastructure .Classrooms are very good and have smart boards and whiteboards as well.

Sanatan dharma college, Ambala cantt, Haryana has extremely good environment and infrastructure. There are so many trees planted here. Building of college is also very good. Compost pits and solar panels are made for saving environment.
