Sohagi College of Education, Rewa, is a co-educational institution accredited by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The college provides various undergraduate programs in arts, commerce, sciences, and education. The college has a policy of merit and positive discrimination in the admission process, so that deserving, capable, and in case, disadvantaged students get the opportunity to pursue courses of their desire. Most of the undergraduate courses consider the primary eligibility criterion based on the marks of the qualifying examination. However, in the case of programs like B.Ed and D.Ed, the selection is made through a more elaborate process.
Admission to these courses is, thus, based more on merit, including the qualifications either by way of qualifying examination or performance in the entrance tests/examinations. The college will, however, stick to whatever additional selection criteria/process as and when prescribed by the State Government and the affiliated university. This would guarantee a balanced and clear selection mechanism encased within legal bounds but would also stand firm with the academic assertion of the institution.
Application Process
1. Announcement of Admissions: Usually, through the official website and local media, notices are announced regarding admission initiation.
2. Application Form: Candidates will have to procure and fill in an application form. This may be available online on the college website or could also be made available through personal collection at the college admission office.
3. Submission of Documents: Applicants need to submit the duly filled-in application form accompanied by copies of requisite documents that will include:
4. Entrance Exam/Interview: Candidates may need to take entrance exams/interviews for courses like B.Ed and D.Ed as per the requirements of state government/university.
5. Publication of the Merit List: For each course, the college will prepare and publish the merit list based on the set parameters.
6. Counselling and Seat Allocation: Shortlisted candidates will be called for counselling — at which point they can select their preferred course based on their merit rank in accordance with the available seats.
7. Fee Payment: Candidates that have been selected must remit payment for the prescribed fees to secure their admission.
8. Document Verification: The final document verification will be done by the college prior to issuing the admission letter.
Degree wise Admission Process
B.Com and B.Com Computer: The approved intake of each of these commerce programs is 60. Admission is granted based on marks secured in qualifying examinations (i.e., 10+2 or its equivalent). The overall academic performance of each candidate in the relevant subjects is considered.
BCA (Bachelor of Computer Applications): The BCA program has an approved intake of 60 students and is focused on computer science education. Admission is based on the merit list prepared based on the marks secured in the qualifying examination, stressing mathematics and computer science subjects.
BA (Bachelor of Arts): The college runs the BA program but the details of the intake capacity were not mentioned. Admission is granted on the basis of marks in the qualifying examination, taking into account the relevant subjects concerning the chosen arts specialization.
B.Sc (Bachelor of Science): Sohagi College of Education runs B.Sc programs, although the intake capacity was not specified. Admission is made on merit, based on marks in science subjects in the qualifying examination.
The admission procedure for B.Ed is far more structured thereby: "Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance examination or any other selection process as per the policy of the state government/U.T. Administration and the university," So that candidates possessing the right attitude towards teaching are selected.
Like the B.Ed, the D.Ed is also admitted on the meritorious basis. The college says, "Admission shall be made on merit on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination and/or in the entrance examination or any other selection process as per the policy of the state government/UT Administration."
