There are 20 IIITs set up in various cities throughout the country. Indian Institute of Information Technology Agartala is one of those 20 IIITs established under the Public-Private Partnership. It was established in 2018, and it is currently one of the youngest IIITs in the country, mentored by the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala. The institute is currently functioning in NIT Agartala’s campus until the construction of its 52-acre permanent campus in Agartala is completed. It aims to impart knowledge at its highest level to students and make them valuable to various industries or companies in the future. The institute currently offers admission to Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Computer Science and Engineering.

Students can pursue a B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering at IIIT Agartala through the JEE Main entrance exam along with JoSAA or CSAB counselling. Over the three years of its existence, the institute has had students from various states. IIIT Agartala is approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Therefore, students who wish to pursue B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering can opt to pursue their course degree in IIIT Agartala as per their choice. The institute is likely to introduce many more course degrees in the future.

IIIT Agartala Location

Students and staff can reach the institute in many ways of transport, including air, train, or private vehicles. Students from other states can travel to the institute from the nearest airport, Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport, Agartala which is 26 km from the campus. The nearest railway station is Jirania Railway Station which is only 3 km away from the campus. Apart from these, one can travel by private vehicles also as per their convenience.

IIIT Agartala Scholarship

Scholarships are a form of educational aid or support provided to students with the potential to pursue various course degrees but lack financial support. The fees for technology and engineering degrees can be hefty due to which scholarship schemes come in handy for many candidates. It plays an important role in shaping the future of the students. This is the reason why various academic institutes are offering scholarships to students who meet the required eligibility to receive the scholarship. Apart from institutes, there are many scholarship schemes from the state and central government that students can avail of.

IIIT Agartala, being a new institute, does not offer any scholarships to its students as of now. However, students are highly encouraged to apply for various state and central scholarship schemes. They offer a separate IIIT Agartala scholarship for students belonging to the SC/ST/economically backward category. Students with outstanding academic performance can also apply for merit cum means scholarships provided by the state/central government. Some of the lists of state and central scholarships include-

1. Merit cum means scholarship provided to deserving students by the institute.

2. Post matric scholarship schemes for minorities, Ministry of Minority Affairs.

3. Post-matric scholarship for students with disabilities, provided by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

4. Top-class education scheme for SC students by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

5. National Fellowship and Scholarship for Higher Education of ST students, from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.

6. Central Scheme of scholarship for college and university students which is provided by the Department of Higher Education.

Students come from various states to pursue B.Tech in IIIT Agartala, and they have applied to various state and central scholarships. For availing SC/ST scholarships, students must meet the eligibility criteria that their annual family income must be less than Rs 4.5 lakh. For merit-based scholarships, students must have a strong merit record that meets the required score for receiving the scholarship. Therefore, even though the institute does not offer a scholarship to students, they are still encouraged and supported to apply for various state and central government scholarships. Apart from scholarships, students can also avail of educational loans from various banks as per their needs.
