The Institute of Nursing Education Guru Teg Bahadur Sahib Hospital Ludhiana was started in the year 1989 is one of the premier nursing institution located in Punjab. This affiliated college recognized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has been in CBT Nursing education for more than 30 years. The institute is located on a rather small piece of land — it occupies only 6.74 acres, which might actually be beneficial because it provides a rather concentrated atmosphere important for nurses’ education. To achieve the goal of offering effective and unique education and training to the students, the institute is equipped with 357 students and a committed team of teachers and lecturers, which is only 6 in number. Currently, the institute has three specialized nursing programmes whose provision seeks to meet different levels of nursing education and employment dimensions.
Institute of Nursing Education of nursing education feels privileged in presenting a college that has resourceful equipments to facilitate the training of students. The Community Health Nursing Lab which is a 900 sq ft facility is fully air conditioned and enables students inducticted various procedures in the simulated community and home environment. Here, practical experience is considered paramount when it comes to training why and how nurses should prepare to handle various real life situations. The institute also has very well equipped 1500 Sq ft computer Lab with 20 computer systems having Wi-Fi and other necessary terminal peripherals so that the student gets familiar with the digital healthcare technologies. Since the female students may not be comfortable living nearby the institute, the institute offers hostel facilities. Other facilities are a library with books, newspapers and journals stock, an auditorium for conducting events/seminars, a canteen/ cafeteria, a health center with first aid facilities, court and play fields and a guest house for the faculty/visiting faculty and their family members.
The institute provides all programmes of nursing education to meet various educational levels of the students. Currently, there are three full-time courses available: GNM, BSc Nursing, and Post B. Sc nursing Nursing. The present intake capacity of the GNM course and B.Sc Nursing are 60 each and 30 are available in the Post Basic B.Sc Nursing course. This takes the total students’ capacity for all programmes to 150. The course offered are structured in a way that the students get knowledge both theoretically and practically to meet the dynamism of the health sector.
The admission procedure at the Institute of Nursing Education differs from other institutes to provide a better and equal chance to interested students. Although the details regarding the admission process are quite general, it is understood that performance in the previous academic year’s completed courses in other schools or colleges, entrance examination, and an interview may be considered in selection to a nursing programme where specified. Application Process
1. Go to the official website (gtbhnursing.com) for admission notices and application forms.
2. Download and complete the application form as directed for the selected program (GNM, B.Sc Nursing, or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing).
3. Keep ready the requisite application documents, including:
Passport-size photos
Score cards of qualifying exams (10th, 12th, or previous nursing qualification)
Valid ID
Domicile Certificate (if applicable)
Caste Certificate (if applicable)
4. Submit the duly completed application form along with the requisite documents to the admissions office of the institute before the due date.
5. As asked by the institute, pay the application fee.
6. If shortlisted, appear for any entrance examination or interview as per intimation by the institute.
7. Wait for the final selection result either to be published on the website of the institute or communicated directly to the candidates.
8. If selected, comply with the admission formalities, including document verification and fee payment, within stipulated time.
Degree-wise Admission Process
GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery): The sanctioned intake for this course is 60 students. Admission into GNM is done on the basis of the merit secured by the candidate in the last qualifying examination. For details on specific eligibility criteria and selection process, contact the institute.
B.Sc Nursing: This program shall have also an approved intake of 60 students. Apart from the initial basis for admission to the program being performance at the 10+2 level, particularly in science subjects, an entrance test and/or interview may also comprise part of the selection process.
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing: This program has an approved intake of 30 students. It is meant for people already qualified with a GNM/public equivalent qualification. Admission may differ in terms of consideration of the nursing qualification, plus other qualifications and work experience if any, gained by the candidate.
The holistic admission process has been adopted by the institute for all programs based on academic achievement, aptitude for nursing, and other relevant factors.
