12 MonthsMarian College Kuttikkanam Autonomous, the premier higher education institution of Kerala launches Post Graduate Diploma in School Counselling (PGDSC) which offers training in school counselling. The programme includes courses in Research Methodology, Developmental Psychology, School Social Work, different therapies etc. and covers all the foundation courses in Psychology and Counselling with emphasis on practical training.
The PGDSC program follows a semester-based (CSS) course structure and continuous evaluation within an innovative academic curriculum. PGDSC programme contains nine core courses, two field works and a dissertation/project. It is a one-year programme comprising of two semesters. The key features of the programme are the thrust given to the foundation topics in Psychology, Counselling and Psychotherapy. The programme includes theoretical foundations of counselling, training in different psychotherapeutic techniques, field work and real school environment training.
The programme will be highly beneficial to school and college teachers, counsellors, social workers and to those who have interest and aptitude in working with school/college students. The candidates who complete PGDSC successfully can serve as counsellors in schools. It will also help teachers to improve theirteaching and leadership skills and will help them to be the catalysts of the environmental transformation of the school.
The programme will follow the Credit and Semester System (CSS). Objective of PGDSC The objective of the Post Graduate Diploma School Counselling is to train and develop competent school counsellors, who will be transformational in addressing the ever growing emotional and behavioural challenges encountered by school children.
Candidates shall have genuine interest and aptitude in counselling. Candidates for admission to the PGDSC programme shall be required to have passed any undergraduate programme of Mahatma Gandhi University or of any University recognised by AIU or institutions recognized by Mahatma Gandhi University as equivalent thereto, with a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent grade.
The selection of candidates will be based on entrance/aptitude test, group discussion and personal interview which will evaluate the suitability/aptitude/interest of the candidate for the Programme. The final rank list shall be prepared out of 150 marks. The relative weight for the three components will be 50:50:50.
