The College Students are energetic and enthusiastic, and they have a lot of free time. Engaging in social service while pursuing education brings students in contact with people from different strata of society. Keeping this in mind, the University Grants Commission recommended that National Social Service cells should be established in the universities & colleges in India. Therefore, the University of Mumbai thinks of NSS as an effective medium to create a sense of social awareness amongst students. This College started an NSS unit for this purpose in 2002. The unit gives admission to 150 students every year. Through posters, street plays, and rallies, students proudly participate in AIDS, Polio, and environmental protection programs to create social awareness. Every year, the unit organizes 7 7-day residential camp in a nearby village. In the residential camp, NSS volunteers actively participate in tree plantation, cleanliness drives, health awareness programs, construction of bunds, etc. The unit also organizes lectures of eminent persons on cross-cutting issues. In this way, the unit creates opportunities for students to participate in district-level training camps, National solidarity camps, and National flag-hoisting ceremonies in New Delhi. The university gives grace marks and a certificate to students after completing their 120 hours of work in an academic year.
