Hello Aspirant,

I hope you are doing well.

For admission to NIFT's B.Des and B.F.Tech programmes, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Entrance Examination is held. Candidates applying for B.Des must take the Creative Ability Test, General Ability Test, and Situation Test, while those applying for B.F.Tech must take the General Ability Test. The merit list for admission to B.Des will be based on the weighted average of the CAT, GAT, and Situation Test scores.

50 percent CAT

30 percent GAT

20 percent in the situation test

You will be evaluated not only on the Situation Test, which has a 20% weightage, but also on your performance in these tests. And unless your model's demonstration is not in English, the circumstance test is not a disqualification round. As a result, you should explain the model in English. The model will be judged on its ability to visualise space, inventiveness, uniqueness, finishing, element composition, structure, and colour scheme, among other factors. A merit list should be made after the situation test. As a result, the CAT, GAT, and Situation test are all equally significant in securing a good rank.

I hope this helps.

Good Luck

Hi,

Every year there are around 8,000 students who qualified for the situation test and there are 2,500 seats. So there are very few chance to get admitted into NIFT even if you have qualified for the situation test. But there are pretty good chances of getting into NIFT if you belongs to reserved category. As of now you can’t predict and guess the chance of good AIR rank.

There is very little connection between your “getting qualified” in CAT/GAT and getting selected into NIFT. NIFT entrance, in itself encompasses some part of CAT and GAT, but the final AIR is also depending upon your Situation/studio test that you appear for once you have cleared the written exam(the first part.) Infact, Situation text is the one deciding your creative abilities and thoughtfulness to find the best solutions or come up with best outcomes with the limited supplies that you have at that moment.

Hence, to get a good AIR, please brace yourselves well for the Situation test as well.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

NITF Entrance examinations has three part

  1. Creative Ability Test (CAT)
  2. General Ability Test (GAT)
  3. Situation Test.

Candidates seeking admission to the Bachelor of Fashion Technology (B.F. Tech) need to appear for the GAT exam only.

Situation Test is conducted is conducted for the candidates shortlisted in the written examination. The duration of Situation test is two hours. Candidates will be evaluated based on the  following parameters

  • Colour scheme

  • Space visualization

  • Construction skill

  • Innovative and creative use of given material

  • Finesse of the model

  • Composition of elements

  • Overall presentation

During the situation test  students are not allowed to use any additional or outside material at the time of making the model. The explanation of the model should be in English Language. If candidates used any other language other than English while explaining the model then it will lead to disqualification. Here are few questions asked in Situation Test over the years

1.Make a memento on:

  • Polio eradication
  • Voting
  • Best teacher

2. Design an equipment bag for anyone-

  • Painter
  • Makeup artist
  • Photographer

3, Design a trophy for anyone

  • Best kitchen gardener
  • Best gamer
  • Best sailor

Hi,

NIFT follows relative grading system. You can never predict with what marks you get in NIFT and with what marks you don't. Same marks can have different CMR in different years. Passing marks may vary every year. As you might know, NIFT entrance consist of Cat-50% Gat-30% and Situation Test-20%
So if you have scored well in written exam (CAT+GAT) you can easily get among top 2000 and get selected for situation test. This year, the cut off for general in written exam(CAT+GAT) was 41.5 marks. So your marks should be greater than this to qualify for the next round, I.e, situation test. But this may vary year-to-year. Your performance in situation test will actually decide your RANK! So do well in that to get a good CMR. But 75+ is required to get into your desired campus and desired course. Now when it comes to any campus and any course the cut off varies for general, reservation etc. For general you need to get around 62+ to get into NIFT for any course in any campus.

Hope this helps.
