Based on previous year's cut-offs it can be said that with your CMR 832 Rank you can't get preferred course B.Ftech, as you said you belong to General Category.

The previous year's cut-offs for B.Ftech course in NIFT Chennai are given below.

Category: General Category

2019 Closing Rank - 310

2018 Closing Rank - 332

But you have good chances of getting other courses like Textile Designing, Apparal Designing, Knitwear, Leather Designing etc as their cutoff is between 900 to 1800. I d on't think so you can change your caste at this point of time because you already got ranks. But you can try for it by contacting helpdesk team given in the official website.

The cut off for NIFT 2021 will be released after the seat allocation during counselling. Cut off is the last rank of the candidate who has secured seat in a particular campus and branch. Every year the cut off changes depending on the total number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of examination and total number of seats available etc. The cut off is different for each category, institute and branch. In 2019 a candidate belonging to general category with rank 310 secured seat in National Institute of Fashion Technology, Chennai in B.F.Tech. Considering the cut off you do not have chances of getting seat in NIFT, Chennai in preferred branch but you still hold chances of getting seat in Leather Designing, Knitwear Designing, Textile Designing and Apparel Designing in NIFT, Chennai. The cut off was 1884, 1165, 961 and 915 respectively for general category. The cut off is subjected to change it may increase or decrease depending on the total number of candidates appeared, difficulty level of examination and total number of seats available etc.

For your reference 27% seats are reserved for O.B.C candidates, 10% for E.W.S candidates, 15% for S.C and 7.5% for S.T
