Sir JJ School of Art, Mumbai Admission Process

Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, is one of the oldest and most important art institutes in the country. The institution was granted approval by the AICTE and offers a wide spectrum of specialized art programs at diploma, undergraduate, and postgraduate level.

The admission processes of the institute are very elaborate, carrying a weightage in the student's academic performance, artistic ability, and growth potential in their field of choice. The admission cycle in most courses generally begins in early months of the year; applications typically open around January-February for the academic year that begins in August-September.

Eligibility criteria may differ for each of the programs. Some broad eligibility criteria are:

  • For Diploma programs: Passed 12th standard from recognized boards
  • For Undergraduate programs: Passed 12th standard with relevant subjects
  • For Postgraduate programs: Hold a bachelor's degree in the relevant field of art

Application Process

5. Interview/Practical Test: The shortlisted candidates would be called for the interview/practical to gauge their artistry ability and passion for the program.

6. Merit List Publication: The merit list will be compiled on the basis of candidates' performance in the entrance examination, portfolio evaluation, and the interview/practical tests.

7. Admission Confirmation: Selected candidates must confirm their admission by paying the requisite fees and submitting original documents within the stipulated time period.

Degree wise Admission Process

Diploma in ATD:

The Diploma in ATD program at Sir J.J. School of Art can take in 25 students. Admission requires holders of a passed 12th standard from a recognized board. The admission process likely includes evaluation of academic records and possibly an aptitude test or portfolio submission.

PGD Art Education:

This program runs for the postgraduate diploma and takes an intake in 25 students. It requires candidates to have a diploma or degree in painting, drawing, or applied art. Selection may include an appraisal of the candidate's previous academic performance and artistic portfolio.

Diploma in Sculpture and Modelling:

This course accommodates 20 students. Admission requires candidates to have passed the foundation course from the Directorate of Art, Maharashtra. The admission process probably includes an evaluation of the candidate's performance on the foundation course, perhaps with a practical test.

MFA Ceramic:

The Master of Fine Arts in Ceramic provides 5 seats; BFA under 10+2+3 pattern qualification from a recognized board is absolutely mandatory for prospective candidates. The admission process may include weightage to MAH AAC CET scores along with portfolio evaluation and may conduct an interview.

MFA Painting:

The postgraduate program has a capacity of 20 students. Qualifications include a qualified BFA (10+2+3 pattern) from a recognized board. The admission processes for MFA Painting possibly consider MAH AAC CET scores along with a review of the candidate's artistic portfolio, potentially followed by an interview.
