This college, officially an Institute of Music and Fine Arts, Srinagar, one of the foundations created underneath the aegis of the University of Kashmir, is truly one of the finest art colleges in the region, going all out to develop talent seeds in varied art disciplines. As a well-acclaimed institution for music and fine arts, the institute has been following a rather selective remedial admission process toward recognizing and nurturing some of the unique artistic talents. Apart from this, little has yet been said about admission schedules; but it is to be understood, as a general rule, that similar to any other institution, the Institute of Music and Fine Arts conducts admission in accord with its respective academic calendar.
The seat for the various undergraduate programs offered in music and fine arts has been extremely limited, with a selection of merely 10 students per course, on account of the Institute attaching great value to individual attention and optimum utilization of specialized facilities. It is speculated that the admission modalities would consist of some combination of merit, portfolio assessment, and possibly some entrance tests in order to assess the candidates' artistic skills and potential.
Eligibility Criteria for Admission: The generally considered eligibility consists of passing high school or an equivalent 10+2 examination by a recognized board. More pertinently on account of the highly specialized nature of the programs, these institutes could exercise their discretion in considering whether any prior formal training or experience in art or music would confer an advantage to the candidate at the time of admission.
Application Process
1. Online Application: The candidates fill up an online application from the institute's official website.
2. Submission of Documents: This includes the submission of academic transcripts, proof of age, and possibly certificates of prior training or achievements that one may have in arts.
3. Portfolio Submission: Candidates are usually asked to submit a portfolio of best works in the visual arts programs for assessment by the admission committee of the applicant's artistic skills and creativity.
4. Entrance Test: Each of these programs might have its own entrance examination through which the institute can assess the aptitude and knowledge of the candidate in his/her selected field of study.
5. Audition/Practical Test: On the side of music programs, it doesn't come as a surprise if applicants end up having to undergo some sort of audition process through which their abilities in music are demonstrated; similarly, perhaps for visual arts candidates who may have to undergo a practical test.
6. Interview: On the shortlist, the selected candidates have the privilege of being called for a personal interview during which their passion, commitment, and suitability for their chosen program will be assessed.
7. Publication of Merit List: After that, a merit list will be prepared based on all stages of the admission process and shall also be published on the Institute's website.
8. Confirmation of Admission: The selected candidates shall confirm their admission through the payment of the required fees and the submission of original documents for verification within the stipulated time.
Degree-wise Admission Process
