Established in 1937, the University of Kerala was formerly known as the University of Travancore and is one of the first 16 universities of India. Kerala University was founded by the promulgation of the Maharajah of Travancore, Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama who was also the first chancellor of the University. There are 167 colleges that are affiliated to the University of Kerala. Kerala University is ranked 23rd in the university’s category for 2020 by the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), MHRD. The university offers varied infrastructural facilities to its students. There are a total of six hostels out of which four are for girls and two for boys.
