Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing, Thiruvallur Admission Process

Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing, Thiruvallur is a premier constituent college of Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai. The college offers several undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in nursing with prime emphasis on creating world-class nursing professionals. The admission process in the nursing college aims to assess capable and dedicated individuals who aspire to take up nursing as their career.  Admission is strictly on a merit-selected basis, hinging mainly upon the academic performance of the candidate in relevant subjects and applicable entrances. Undergraduate programs such as B.Sc. 

Nursing focus mainly on the achievement of eligibility on the part of the candidate by passing with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as cores, at the 10+2 stage. For postgraduate programs, candidates are required to have completed their B.Sc. Nursing or an equivalent qualification from a recognized university. In addition to that, the admission processes are conducted according to Indian Nursing Council (INC) guidelines so that every student who gets admission is at par with committed standards of nursing education in India.

Application Process

The Sri Ramachandra College of Nursing admission process consists of various steps:

1. Notification: The college makes an announcement regarding the start of admissions, followed up by notifications on the college website and in external media.

2. Application form: The candidates are required to fill in the application form. This application form may be downloaded online or obtained from the admissions office of the college.

3. Document Submission: Candidates need to meet the following requirements in addition to submitting the duly filled application:

  • 10th and 12th mark sheets
  • Transfer Certificate
  • Conduct Certificate
  • Community Certificate (if applicable)
  • Relevant entrance exam scores (if required for the chosen program)
  • Graduation certificate and mark sheets (for postgraduate applicants)
  • Any other certificates or documents specified by the college

4. Application Fee: The form shall indicate the application manager who will receive his payment of the application fee. The form is limited in terms of payment and application amounts.

5. Entrance Exam: Depending on the program instructions, candidates may be required to take an entrance exam organized by the college or take national-level recognized entrance exams.

6. Merit list: Selection of candidates shall be done on basis of academic performance, entrance exam scores, and other criteria as specified by the college to prepare the merit list.

7. Counseling and admission: Under Counseling, all shortlisted candidates are called to choose their preferred course (in case of multiple options). The final admission shall be granted only post verification of documents and payment of fees.

8. A medical examination: Qualifying selected candidates may undergo a further examination to ascertain whether they meet the physical requirements for nursing.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Sc. Nursing: A four-year undergraduate program with an intake of 100 students through merit on the basis of performance in the 10+2 in science subjects. The total fee is nearly Rs. 400,000.

Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing: Having an intake of 60 students, this program is for registered nurses obtaining their qualification. Admission depends on the nursing qualification and work experience of the candidate having a fee of around Rs. 150,000.

M.Sc. Nursing: It is available in various specializations with 6 students each. The specializations are:

  1. M.Sc. Medical Surgical Nursing
  2. M.Sc. Pediatrics Nursing
  3. M.Sc. Obstetrics and Gynecology Nursing
  4. M.Sc. Community Health Nursing
  5. M.Sc. Mental Health psychiatry Nursing

For these specializations, selection will be done on the basis of B.Sc. Nursing degree inference and may include entry into examination as well. The fee for each of the M.Sc. programs is about Rs. 200,000.

The M.Sc. Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care: The specialized program admitted 10 students. The selected admission procedure most likely includes prior nursing experience, primarily in critical care settings, melded with academic performance in B.Sc. Nursing.
