Like every college-going student, I walked into my college full of expectations. A year later, few of them were fulfilled and many not. Well, getting into one of the top 3 colleges in India has its own benefits. Firstly, the college gives much scope to sports and has a great ground for football, cricket, and various other sports. Secondly, The infrastructure is really good, especially the main building which always gives a feel good feeling. The college has one old library which shelves more than 1 lakh books. Thirdly, this college can be singled out for the fact that it has the department of human excellence. This dept. encourages to step up and makes them confident. This helps a lot under-privileged to come in terms with standards and requirements of the today's employment scenario. The student union elections in our election give students a sound idea of what politics and student power is indeed. The Hostel mess is really good, it is often relied on by students who come from different states. And, the college gives you the chance to mingle with students from various states, there is much student diversity. And on terms of affordability, the fees quoted by the college seems fair and genuine. And they provide various scholarships to financially weaker students. As far as the security is concerned, the college takes all necessary measures to keep the campus secured. And on the downside, the faculty of the college needs reshuffling and the standards for the professors should be raised. The college should bring in more inter college cultural events. It is a big college and more often one finds lost in it. And although the college is said to be boys only college, few depts. in UG have co-ed which creates a lot disruption somehow. Some concrete decision needs to be made on that matter. The syllabus needs an update as well. But, on the larger scale, it is good college and one can have fun if they can guide themselves through the college without expecting anything from college. There is no ragging issues absolutely and it is very much student friendly. The college houses one star-studded alumni and right now runs on that glory and to sustain the glory for more years to come, it has to raise it standards. Don't expect too much and be prepared to make best out of the lot(worst). All the best!

My Pursuit in Loyola

I walked into my college with a lot of excitement and expectations. Being in Loyola, which always faces in the Top 3 when it comes to ranking across the country, was like being on cloud nine. After spending more than a year here, I am delighted with the college's infrastructure like a library, sports facilities, placement record, reasonable fee structure, hostel mess, discipline. The department of human excellence which aims at nurturing values and to build a socially responsible citizen is unique to our college. The department of outreach requires the 2nd year students to work in slum areas twice a week for their betterment. Although, when it comes to teaching, I wonder how some of the faculty got into the college as they are unfit for the job. Also , being frank the college is resting a lot on their past glory. I am someone who wants it back. There is not much of an encouragement from the college for many of both academic and extra-curricular activities. The college has just 2 departments in UG as Co-ed which has its own boon and bane from a student's point of view.

Best college for academic activities and non curricular activities. Non-curricular activities also given equal preference. Outside exploture is being experienced more in college activities done by them. Infrastructure facilities is awesome. A big library to impart more knowledge on students. Teachers are being more experienced one who knows how the students understand and teaches accordingly. Fees is bit high when compared to other commerce colleges in the location. Your personality will be changed to a good one once you join this college

Let your light shine

The title of this review is the college motto and it is true at various levels. Loyola College is a minority college and it mainly aims at uplifting the downtrodden. It is a 90-acre campus with well-maintained parks, lush green football field, cricket field and a hockey field. The buildings depict magnificent British architecture with such ventilation that you wouldn't even require switching on the fan even on a hot day. Labs have sufficient facilities and the library is a brilliant source of knowledge with a wide collection of books including e-resources. The college has a lot of tie ups with corporate firms and being the 2nd best college in India it attracts a huge placement crowd. We had top companies like Google, Wipro, Mackensy, Infosys, and so on. Being a minority college the peer group contains people from the lower strata who might not be very affluent or extremely meritorious given their circumstances however it's a form of exposure that people from the privileged class can get. My college could have been more happening if the rules were a bit reasonable as in the pretense of being too strict and maintaining discipline the administrative officials loose they're humane and treat students as if they own their lives. This is the one of the biggest negative aspect of the college, the other one being the faculty, which I believe needs improvement. I personally being a zoology student wanted to pursue higher studies and hence did not opt for any placement opportunities though there were many which visited our college. I was a day scholar and did not live in the hostel. However as far as I have heard from my friends in the hostel, its extremely reasonable packed with activities. Some have complained of the water supply, although overall it is a good deal. Some of the college professors lacked a holistic knowledge of the subject and also fluency in English. There is quite a diversity among students and its quite nice to mingle with students from different parts of India and it does impact the college as a huge cultural diversity exists in the college. Our college is extremely affordable in terms of fees structure. There are also various scholarship and concession that are offered in the college for the less privileged class of students. The college is a land of opportunities provided you are willing to grab them as they will not just come to you. Hence you need to make sure that your light shines brightly. The college prepares you not just academically but also as a person through its personality development courses and outreach programmes.

Excellent infrastructure! Peaceful atmosphere. The system is on par with international institutions. What more can we expect from Loyola? The faculties are student friendly, and the students are study-friendly! Almost 90% of them get placed before graduation. There are excellent opportunities for exchange programs where the student can fly abroad for a semester. I personally had a blissful experience with so many learning points when I graduated. With being ranked Number 1 in Tamilnadu, you just can't find a better arts/science college than Loyola in Chennai.

It's an amazing college providing wonderful exposure for the students. The faculty is able to provide the relevant attention and guidance to students. The students are entrusted with a wide variety of clubs for personality and career development. These prove to be the difference for a student as they learnt the whole picture . The college life is very structured and disciplined. The students are self-motivated to be rigorous and hardworking ,however still have the freedom to bring up their opinions and suggestions in the open forums. Placements are plenty and students have a lot of options to choose from and excel. There is a wide range of companies which for campus recruitment

Concentrates more on extracurricular activities hence Loyola has a reputation among best colleges in India. Infrastructure is amazing as Loyola has a huge campus . Placements are not that great but definitely better than any other college in Chennai. Being the Secretary I had the privilege to host a few extra curricular activities. Students should look to participate in such events rather than concentrating only on studies. College is strict when it comes to attendance so maintaining attendance is mandatory. They do not hesitate to detain students, so it's important students keep this in mind.

Students guidance

The way they guide the students is awesome. Students will think they are not teaching properly but they are trying to make us refer books for our studies so that we can gain lots of knowledge while referring the books. Very liberal but very strict in their rules through which they bring students on a good path. Love you Loyola.

The Loyola College in Chennai was founded in 1925 by the Society of Jesus (Jesuits). In 1978, it became autonomous giving it the freedom to frame its own course of studies and adopt innovative methods of teaching and evaluation. The Loyola College is affiliated to the University of Madras. The college is defined by its qualified faculty and innovative teaching methods. Infrastructure The Loyola College, Chennai possesses excellent infrastructure. It houses green playgrounds, up-to-date laboratories, high speed internet facility and computer services, well equipped digital and physical library, a good canteen, student’s hostel, etc. Academics Loyola follows a credit-based semester pattern, where students need to complete both academic as well as non-academic credits. The Department of Outreach at the college is the nodal agency for social work in the college. Every student, irrespective of department, is required to complete the outreach programme his second year at college in order to complete his degree. College Culturals The Loyola College is one of the first colleges in South-India to host Cultural Fests. Ovations is the annual cultural event organized in September. The college also hosts an inter-collegiate dance competition called Ignite in the month of February. Placements The Loyola College, Chennai has Training and Placement Cell which is an institutional arrangement in the campus to empower the student community in particular the needy and the poor in terms of providing training and securing part-time and full time jobs. All the top companies like Infosys, Wipro, HDFC, Goldman Sachs, Google, etc come to the college for recruitment. Former President of India R Venkataraman, management guru C K Prahalad, Grand Master Vishwanathan Anand, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu Narasimhan Ram, former RBI Governor C Rangarajan, former PM of Zambia Daniel Lisulo are just few names.
