Before moving on to the NPTEL assignments score calculation, let us understand how this score is taken into consideration for the final NPTEL exam score. The number of assignments varies according to the choice of course. Basically, an assignment is provided to the learner after the completion of each week of the programme. So, the number of weeks of the NPTEL course is equal to the number of assignments. However, not all assignments will be considered for the final exam score calculation. To understand this, check the table below.
NPTEL Course Type | Total Number of Assignments | Assignments considered for the Final NPTEL Exam |
---|---|---|
4-week course | 4 | Best of 3 assignment score |
8-week course | 8 | Best of 6 assignment score |
12-week course | 12 | Best of 8 assignment score |
To meet the NPTEL passing criteria, candidates have to secure 25 per cent in assignments and 75 per cent in the final proctored NPTEL exam. Check steps to check the NPTEL assignment marks below.
As we know that not all assignments marks will be considered for the calculation. Only the best ones will be considered which vary according to the choice of NPTEL course. To calculate the NPTEL assignment marks, learners can use the below mentioned formula.
Assignment Score (25 per cent weightage) = Total Score of Best of Assignments (According to the choice of programme)/ Total Marks of Assignments Taken in considered X 25
Let us understand this by an example:
If you are taking an 8-week NPTEL course, your best 6 assignment scores will be counted. You will get marks for all 8 assignments, but only the top 6 will be considered. Each assignment is out of 100 marks, so the total for the best 6 is 600 marks.
Add your best 6 scores, divide that total by 600, and then multiply the result by 25 to get your final assignment score, which will be the 25 per cent weightage of total marks.
Total of 6 best assignment scores (95+92+100+97+97+90) = 571
Then, Assignment Score = 571/600 = 0.952 X 25 = 23.8
23.8 marks will be considered as 25 per cent of your assignment marks.
Along with this, candidates have to secure NPTEL pass mark out of 100 in the proctored class which carries 75 per cent weightage.
