The Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya (DAVV) is located in the city of Indore, which for two years running has been declared as India’s cleanest city. The university was established in the year 1964. It is a state university, ratified by the UGC (University Grants Commission). Its initial jurisdiction spanned the district of Indore only. But later, seven more districts from the same division in the Madhya Pradesh (MP) state were added to the mix. These seven districts are those of- Jhabua, Khandwa, Burhanpur, Barwani, Dhar, Khargone and Alirajpur. All of these have a sizeable tribal population, and so the corresponding focus on their development.
The DAVV has also been accredited by the NAAC (National Assessments and Accreditation Council), earning for itself an A grade rating. A separate IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) has been created to this end, to ensure that all the terms of the NAAC are complied with. An AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) gets generated to quantify the results. The total acreage of the DAVV campus spans over 760 acres of land. This piece of land is divided among the Takshila parisar and the Avanti parisar academic blocks and the Nalanda parisar which is the administrative block.
The university provides courses right from the UG till doctoral levels. These courses are executed by the constituent schools. There are these schools for Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Sciences, Law, Commerce, Computer Science & Information Technology, Data Science & Forecasting, Economics, Education, Electronics, Energy & Environmental Studies, Life Sciences, Mathematics, Languages, Instrumentation, Journalism & Mass Communication, Physics, Statistics, Social Science, Physical Education and for Pharmacy. There are also separate institutes for Management Studies, Professional Studies and for Engineering & Technology. Another is the Bahai Chair for Studies in Development. Some of the courses on offer at the DAVV are on self- supporting mode.
The DAVV has also always believed in providing benefits to the broader society. The students here have likewise been instilled with such value. And that is why the students here have been active participants in government schemes such as the NSS (National Service Scheme). The university also has a regional centre under the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Kaushal Kendra. The promotion and upkeep of the Hindi language and literature is also one of the key tenets of the DAVV.
The campus has much to offer. There are hostel facilities for both boys and girls. Banking facilities with ATM are available in the campus’s vicinity. There is a sports field where cricket and football may be played. Facilities are also there for indoor sports. The gymnasium may also be used by all. A large auditorium is there to facilitate major events, at both intra and inter college level. The campus is Wi- Fi enabled. Science laboratories have the latest of equipment. A health centre is also there to cater to medical emergencies. Hygienic food is prepared at the college cafeteria. The college even has its own transport to ferry students to and from the campus. A convenience store is also located within campus.
The library here is one of the best stocked within the region. Besides the physical books on display, it also provides digital access to en number of international academic journals for research and academic purposes. It is connected to the INFLIBNET (Information and Library Network Centre). The university is also a signatory to the NMEICT (National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology). Online learning is another methodology that the DAVV strongly endorses. That is why the university has also signed up for the NPTEL (National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning).
The Devi Ahilya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Indore has been understood to be a leading university, across ranking platforms. It has been placed within the 101- 150 band among universities by the NIRF (National Institutional Rankings Framework) in 2017. The same platform has also bestowed upon it, rank 45th in the category for pharmacy colleges. The careers 360 magazine has placed the DAVV within the AAA grade category within engineering.
