Prof Ramola Kumar. For admission to DSC, applicants need to be a graduate or graduating by July of the year of applying. Work experience in the desired field of Media and Communication is preferred but not mandatory. The student needs to submit the online registration form, which costs Rs 1,100 and can be filled up on the official website – dsc.edu.in

There are two written tests for admission to DSC. First is the DSC Admission Test which is similar to any management aptitude test. We accept the CAT/ MAT scorecard of a student in place of the DSC admission test, in case he/ she has sat for them. Applicants can contact the institute to check on the cut-off with respect to these exams.

The second exam is a Psychological Test. This is a 30 minute exam assessing students emotional quotient, teamwork and other interpersonal skills.

The maximum weightage is given to the Personality Interview at DSC. This can be a one hour long interaction where a students aptitude and attitude, both are assessed.

Careers360. What kind of infrastructure can students expect at the institute? Please elaborate?

Prof Ramola Kumar. DSC is a gurukul of communication – a place where we prepare students to succeed holistically, where intelligence is fueled by dedication and where an attitude to excel is embraced with human sensitivity.

We have classrooms equipped with internet, projector screens etc. There are some group interaction rooms for students to brainstorm ideas. A library, a cafeteria and an open air event area for events and presentation promotions etc.

But beyond the physical infrastructure, we cherish the student-teacher relation which is perhaps the strongest anchor. Knowing each student by name, batch and background throughout the years, shows our commitment to dovetailing human sensitivity in education, while achieving technical quality. In the process of making each student prepared for the diverse and demanding communication industry, we provide them opportunities to apply classroom theories reflecting industry realities.

Careers360. There is a lot of stress that is being made with regard to interaction with the industry as well as companies that recruit. What are the steps being taken by the institute in this direction?

Prof Ramola Kumar. DSC is one of the pioneers in industry engagement, Internship and Apprenticeships. More than 100 industry leaders visit the campus as guest faculty, jury members in presentations and act as mentors. After 27 years, our own Alumni are today leading the Media, Marketing industry and come visit the campus, brainstorming ideas and engaging with young minds. Many times, several placements take place from classroom interaction itself.

Then the final dissertation at the end of the 2-year programme, includes topics that are current and very industry-relevant, as the students study and analyze critical issues for futuristic strategic planning of relevance to organizations, at multiple levels. The study is presented to the top agencies and students enjoy engaging with industry stalwarts. Every student earns a combined certificate, signed by the organization and DSC after the presentation. This is indeed the crowning glory of their two-year journey – as they step out to join the industry.

Therefore, we bring industry closer to the classroom at every stage.

Careers360. Internships are now mandatory as per AICTE guidelines. Does the institute help students with this? If yes, how?

Prof Ramola Kumar. The Delhi School of Communication offers students unparalleled work exposure in the form of apprenticeships and a three-month summer internship. The final placement is also organized by the institute.

Starting from the first semester, the academic sessions span 6 hours a day after which students obtain hands-on work experience in target industries via Apprenticeships and the Summer Internship. The internships gear them up to face industry challenges, where they learn to stretch their timeline and programme work effectively and efficiently, giving them a competitive edge during placements. Each student earns upto 6 months of work experience in two years; and all placements for internships and apprenticeships are done by the institute for each student.

More than 60% internships convert to final placements and we have a full-fledged placement committee, we ideate a placement brochure which is shared with organizations pan-India and we invite recruiters, formalize placements and negotiate final packages.
