Established in 1989 by the Hamdard National Foundation (HNF), Jamia Hamdard University is deemed-to-be university. It is approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC). NAAC has accredited the varsity with an ‘A’ grade. The university got the 37th position in NIRF Overall Rankings 2020 and however, in NIRF 2021 Ranking, Jamia Hamdard University has been ranked 64th in the overall category. Furthermore, it got 1st and 22nd positions in NIRF Pharmacy and NIRF Medical Rankings 2020 respectively.  In the university category, it has been ranked 41 in the NIRF ranking 2021 whereas, in the year 2020 of the NIRF ranking, it was ranked 21 in the same category. In the NIRF rankings of 2021, the university has been ranked 1st in the pharmacy category.

Jamia Hamdard University Delhi campus is spread over an area of 100 acres. The university has 384 faculty members and currently, 9138 students are enrolled in various programmes offered by the university.  The institute has secured 25th rank in the Medical category in NIRF 2021 Ranking. 

The varsity provides a total of 126 courses at diploma, UG, PG and doctoral level. A few of the courses offered by the university are B.Tech, B.P.T., M.D., M.Tech. etc. Admission to Jamia Hamdard University courses is done based on the entrance exam and merit of the last qualifying examination, depending on the programme. It accepts GPAT and JEE Main scores for M.Pharma and B.Tech courses. Candidates' scores in NEET are taken into consideration for admission in B.P.T., B.O.T., B.U.M.S., B.Sc. (Hons) Nursing and B.Pharma courses.  

Jamia Hamdard has a placement cell. The university also offers various scholarships to its students. Jamia Hamdard University Delhi Scholarships

Students of the university can apply for a wide range of scholarships provided by the university. Jamia Hamdard University scholarships are provided to students on the basis of their family annual income and academic performance. The university also provides scholarships to reserved category students. Various Jamia Hamdard scholarships are dedicated to girls students and Muslim students. Placement plays an important role in students' lives. In order to provide a good start to students' professional careers, the university placement cell ensures students get placed in their final year of the programme. Jamia Hamdard University placement drives are conducted by its placement cell. Students are also trained and provided with career counselling sessions by the placement cell. To participate in Jamia Hamdard University placements candidates need to register and pay the placement registration fee.
