Shoolini University Admissions 2025
ApplyNAAC A+ Grade | Ranked No.1 Private University in India (QS World University Rankings 2025)
Hi
MSc astrophysics as in is a branch of physics. So out of 29 subjects Gate has to offer you are supposed to go for physics.
Second point is the choice of gate subject should be the one closest to or the same as your undergraduate or BSc or BE specialization rather than the course you are GOING to pursue in future and its also specifically mentioned in GATE notification. If you are going to pick up something else other than what you have studied in UG it will be very Difficult to prepare as the gate syllabus is completely based on the UG or BSc or BE syllabus and to top it all Gate is a difficult exam to crack or score even if you are appearing for your own subject. Though they have given 2 paper options but even then the allowed combinations are fixed and decided other than that combinations you can't choose anything else. For eg if physics is one paper you have opted for then you can opt for 2nd paper which is only related to physics meaning keeping physics as a main paper you can go for geophysics or electronics. They have also mentioned that the exam centers for the two papers might be different so think ,decide and choose wisely.
I would suggest that you choose your graduation subject and not to make it difficult as it already is moreover its easier to appear for the subject you are already acquainted of or have already studied. Rest I leave the decision to you.
If you have any other query let me know.

Incase youre seriously Interested in Research in Science, have plans to go for a PhD as well have the intellect to crack seat in IISc Bangalore either through JEE or KVPY, you may pursue that definitely. Otherwise prefer IITs, as you have wider options including Placements, Research as well as Study and Research Groups relevant to every domain. NISER amd UM-DAE CBS are mainly if youre interested in Physical & Chemical Sciences especially from the Nuclear Technology Aspect. Incase youre interested in Research to the Core of your heart, but are not able to crack a Seat in IISc, but have done well in JEE Advanced, you may opt for some of the Good IISERs in that case
hello anusha !!
i am afraid that you may not be able to upload your 12th marksheet after submitting the application form of IISER. If there is a change in the percentage of the marks you secured then there is slight chance for you to do so.
you need to upload your original mark sheet in the application portal but the percentage in the application form should be the revised one. The revised marks statement from your board conrming the change of marks must be sent to ask-jac2021[AT]iiserkol.ac.in with a subject line “Revised Marks”. You should also mention your application number in the subject line. Please check the timelines in the following link :
http://www.iiseradmission.in/dates.html
if that’s not the case then kindly mail your problem to the following :
ask-jac2021[AT]iiserkol.ac.in
for more details see :

You have nothing to worry about it. As you have selected the result awaiting option then you should wait for some time and IISER will release notification for the update of marks in the portal. You will have to update the marks at that time online. So you should keep an eye on the official website.

I hope this answer helps. All the very best for your future endeavors!
Hello Archisman!
The IISERs do not release any official cut off to clear the SCB round any year. But there is a generalized analysis of the answer keys by the candidates every year.
It is said that 80+ marks are required by the general category student to secure a seat in IISERs until the second round of allotment. For the later consecutive rounds, general candidates with 70+ marks have meagre chances to secure a seat in the IISERs of their third or fourth preference.
It is revolting to predict if, with 51 marks, you will be able to get even the newest IISERs(Berhampur and Tirupati) this year. It also depends on your list of preferences. But as you belong to the general category the chances seem really less. Sometimes, post allotment sessions are done, please patiently wait for that round if it is going to happen this year. Maybe the increase in seat matrix to 75% in SCB stream can favour you or the difficulty level of IAT this year may bring down the mark window by 8-10.
Hope for the best!
Hlo aspirant
See this all depends upon your mindset and determination , if you are determined enough and you are ready to work hard and study hard for the next one year , then you should definitely give it a try , since a large portion of students get admission in such dream colleges after taking a drop . But if you have a doubt or you are just okay with what you are getting this year then take decision accordingly. At the end of the day what matters the most is your own satisfaction. If you still want to know my opinion , then taking a drop for your better future is wort.h it if you have a will to do . Just remember where there is a will, there is a way . Also if you think you can make a good future while doing B.Sc then also there is no such issue.
Hope my answer helps
All the very best!
