About Government Medical College and Hospital, Nagpur
Government Medical College and Hospital Nagpur was established in 1947 which is spread over an area of 196 acres. The college initially started functioning in the Engineering School campus, Sadar, Nagpur. The present building was inaugurated on 27th March, 1953 by the former President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. The first batch of students were admitted from Nagpur as well as Sadar University in 1947. Students were admitted to this college on the basis of the merit of inter science grade and interview conducted by the authority. The college initially started functioning with only undergraduate programmes, but now offers admission to postgraduate programmes in various disciplines. All the courses are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The college was earlier affiliated to Nagpur University when it initially started functioning, but now the affiliation got changed to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS), Nashik. GMC Nagpur offers admission to undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes on the basis of NEET scores. The college also offers admission to diploma courses based on PGCET scores.
