Government Medical College (GMC), Thiruvananthapuram was founded in 1951. It was earlier known as Trivandrum (Thiruvananthapuram) Medical College. GMC Thiruvananthapuram is Kerala’s oldest Medical College and it was founded by the then Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. It is an affiliated college of Kerala University of Health Sciences Thrissur, Kerala.
According to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2023, GMC Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Trivandrum Medical College, has been placed 44th in the Medical Category, achieving a score of 51.91. Trivandrum Medical College provides undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses to students in the field of medical science. GMC Thiruvananthapuram courses cover the MBBS programme at the undergraduate level; MD, MS and PGD programmes at the postgraduate level; and DM and M.Ch programmes at the doctoral level.
