The university was established in 2013. It is a  private university, established by the Government of Arunachal Pradesh. Himalayan University is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). HU Itanagar is also recognised by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). Himalayan University Itanagar is a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU). The mission and the vision of the university is to enhance opportunities for the students by promoting quality education with the help of its research and development programmes. Himalayan University Itanagar is also 9001:2015 certified.

The university offers diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of Science, Engineering, Arts, Management, Computer Science, Commerce, Law and many more. The various courses offered by the university are BSc, BTech, B.A., BA (H),  B.Com, BBA, BCA, BSW, MA, MSc,  M.Com, MBA, M.Tech, and L.L.M. Himalayan University Itanagar also offers integrated programmes and distance education programmes. The total number of students enrolled in the university are 3286.

Himalayan University Itanagar provides many facilities like library, sports, IT infrastructure, laboratories, etc. The university has a placement and Career Advancement Cell which helps students in the placement process. The placement cell helps students in preparing their CVs, job application form, gives training on non-verbal communication skills and also guides students through career counselling. Students at Himalayan University Itanagar can avail central government scholarships, scholarships provided by UGC and state government scholarships by meeting the scholarship eligibility criteria. The university is located in Chimpu, Near Arunachal Pradesh Forest Corporation Guest House Gohpur Tinali, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh. There are various modes of transport to reach the university. One can travel by air, road or rail to reach Himalayan University Itanagar. The nearest railway station is Naharlagun Railway Station. The distance between the railway station and the university is 11 kms. The nearest airport is Itanagar Airport and is 7.1 kms away from the university.  Blue Hill Bus Depot is the nearest bus stop to the university. The university facilities are available for both students and staff members. Himalayan University Itanagar facility includes library, sports, laboratories and IT infrastructure. The university has well maintained IT infrastructure. All departments are equipped with computers, connected through LAN. The computers are well connected with high speed internet and facilitate online learning and research activities. The university offers courses at diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The various courses offered by the university are  B.Sc., B.Tech, B.A., B.A. (H), B.Com, B.B.A, B.C.A., B.S.W., M.A., M.Sc., M.Com, M.B.A, M.Tech, and L.L.M. Students aspiring to take admission at Himalayan University Itanagar have to first meet the eligibility criteria. The eligibility criteria for undergraduate courses is passing marks in 10+2. The eligibility criteria for postgraduate programmes is passing marks in graduation. Also for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, candidates may also have to satisfy minimum aggregate marks with compulsory subjects, wherever required. After meeting the eligibility criteria, students also have to appear for entrance exams, personal interview and/or group discussion, wherever required. Himalayan University Itanagar Scholarships

The university does not have its own scholarships. Students aspiring to avail scholarships at Himalayan University Itanagar have to apply for central government scholarships, UGC offered scholarships and scholarships offered by the state government. Some of the scholarships students can avail at Himalayan University Itanagar are- PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST Students for Pursuing Professional Courses, Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students, PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child, Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for ST Students Arunachal Pradesh and many more. Students have to meet the eligibility criteria to avail these scholarships. After meeting the eligibility criteria, students can directly apply for the scholarships.

1. PG Scholarship Scheme for SC/ST Students for Pursuing Professional Courses- To avail this scholarship, students should be pursuing professional courses from the institution/college/university recognised by the UGC or funded by central or state government. Rs 7800 per month (for ME/MTech) and Rs 4500 per month (for other professional courses) is the scholarship amount awarded under this scheme.

2. Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students- This scholarship is awarded by the Department of Higher Education. Those students who have secured above 80% marks in 10+2 and are pursuing regular courses are awarded this scholarship. Also, their annual family income should be up to Rs 8 lakhs. Rs 10,000 per annum at graduation level and Rs 20,000 per annum at postgraduate level are awarded under this scheme.

3. PG Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child- Girl students up to the age of 30 years and pursuing full-time 1st year PG programme are eligible for this scholarship. The scholarship amount awarded is Rs 36,200 per annum.

4. Post Matric Scholarship (PMS) for ST Students Arunachal Pradesh- To avail this scholarship, candidates’ annual family income should be upto Rs 2.50 LPA and should  have passed 10, 10+2. 

Himalayan University Itanagar Placements

The placement cell of the university plays an important role in the placement of the students. They conduct various activities like skill development training, training on communication skills, resume preparation, guest lectures, seminars, workshops, etc. The placement and Career Advancement Cell of Himalayan University Itanagar also conducts career counselling sessions for the students. The placement cell has strong tie-ups with MCXSX and invites a number of companies to its campus for the placement. The placement cell also assists in conducting internships.
