Admission Process

The admission will be purely on the basis of the marks secured in the VITEEE-2018, conducted by VIT University.

Candidates who have not appeared for the VITEEE are not eligible for admission.

Candidates will be short-listed based on their entrance examination rank and will be called for the counseling.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates appearing for the VITEEE should have secured an aggregate of 60% in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics/Biology in the qualifying examination (+2/Intermediate).

The average marks obtained in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology (PCM/PCB) in +2 (or its equivalent) put together should be 50% for the following categories:

Candidates belonging to SC/ST:

Fill in the proforma as given in Annexure III and have it attested by a competent authority (The list of authorities empowered for the same is given in Annexure III).

For candidates hailing from Jammu and Kashmir and the North Eastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. Fill in the CERTIFICATE TO PROVE NATIVITY (proforma given in Annexure III).

These documents should be produced at the time of counseling, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

In case, the mark statement is not produced by the candidates at the time of admission, the decision of the Management regarding his/her eligibility and admission to the programme shall be final.

Even though the admission is done as per the VITEEE ranking, the candidate has to fulfill the eligibility norms mentioned.

Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics are eligible for all the B.Tech. Degree Programmes.

Candidates who have studied Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are eligible for B.Tech. Bioengineering and B.Tech. Biotechnology programmes. They are also eligible for ECE with specialization in Biomedical Engineering, B.Tech. Computer Science and Engg (Spec.in Bioinformatics) but after joining, registering for Mathematics as bridge course is mandatory.

Age Limit:

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after 1 st July are eligible to apply for VITEEE. The date of birth as recorded in the High School / SSC / X Certificate will be considered authentic. Candidates should produce this certificate in original as proof of their age at the time of counseling, failing which, they will be disqualified. VIT is an exquisite place to learn and grow but inspite of its extensive facilities and amazing campus it has a lot of areas where it can seriously improve .. firstly education. the quality of the teachers must improve along with guided and structured approach. students need to realise their actual goals and interest in life and work towards it. a sense of creativity and holistic learning should be improved. projects should be given weightage and attitude towards social bonding should improve by coming out of their small cocoon of orthodox mindsets. it can go leaps and bounds forward if the improvement starts from the grass root level and from today. It is important in life not to just gain knowledge but to align ourselves towards wisdom. so we need to ask ourselves again and again whether are we developing or not, we need to care about every human soul . a good leader is a person who takes people forward with them so as along as we cannot inspire the people around us we are not growing. a college is a place all these needs thoughts need to begin so I believe in these aspects my college should improve. I would love to see my college grow in all sectors and would definitely do my part for the same.

If you are looking for world class facilities and the ability to use them, you have come to the right place. VIT has very good lab facilities and students are encouraged to use them as much as they can for projects (there's a caveat here which I'll get to later) and other non-curricular activities. VIT is increasingly orienting itself to a more research focused college with CoE's and other interesting lab facilities coming up all over campus. There's also a conscious shift of focus from purely academic subjects to more research based learning. The experiment is in its initial stages and may yet fail, but it's a step in the right direction. For all this shift of focus, however, the majority of the faculty in VIT is mediocre at best. The professors know laughably little about the subjects they teach. More often than not, they refer books of foreign authors and teach the same concepts to students verbatim. If a student can parrot out the same stuff in the exams, full credit is awarded. There isn't much scope for learning. There is some faculty who are truly amazing, but it's a select few and you'd be lucky to have any interaction with them in 4 years. Another thing that is wrong with the academic system is the incredible frequency of examinations in VIT. Quiz 1,2,3 CAT 1,2 and TEE in just a six month (or less) time frame is a bit too much. VIT needs to drop an exam or two to increase learning and reduce rote teaching. Students need to have more time to focus on the subject rather than just the exams. The FFCS system is a double edged sword. It's very good and quite efficiently managed, considering the sheer number of students that it serves. On the flipside, if you happen to have a bad time slot in your lottery, you're basically screwed. The system is meant to be used when the teacher-student ratio is decently balanced and there are sufficient courses on offer for all. This is far from being remotely true in VIT and this is why FFCS fails miserably for a number of students every year. Coming to the non-academic aspects of VIT life. The hostel facilities are pretty great all things considered and even the mess food isn't as bad as it is in many other colleges in the country. There is room for improvement, of course, but all the messes serve palatable, good quality food in hygienic conditions which are a pretty good deal. Student life in VIT is probably the worst that can be encountered in college campuses throughout the country. A huge proportion of the administration's time and energy is wasted in concocting ludicrous and plainly outrageous rules for the student community. I won't waste time listing them all out, but there is a massive list of these. There is a huge suppression of student expression and freedom in general in the campus. With patrolling by guards as if it were a high-security prison, limited areas for students to just sit and relax with friends and severely limited places to even stand after dark, VIT campus is probably the worst in terms of student friendliness. There is a whole posse of guards with whistles whose job description is to shoo people away from places and generally provoke angry reactions. There is also the all-pervasive fear of reprisals from management. The guards and any other persons are quite quick to grab and snatch (quite literally in some cases) ID cards from students and then threaten them with consequences and action. VIT is turning into a morbid police state with little respect for individual privacy or freedom of any kind. The management has a medieval and parochial mindset which it seeks to enforce on a student body of 20000 which is extremely diverse. Moral policing and enforcement of "Values" is more important to them than keeping out of students' private lives and letting kids make their own choices. Gender inequality is the norm in VIT. Girls are regularly and constantly discriminated against in all aspects of college life from hostel curfews to excursions outside campus and on and on it goes. Girls have an extremely restrictive and policed environment which does not teach them any independence at all. It only makes them more and more dependent on the system for each and every need that they have. I cannot stress this enough:

According to my point of view, it has each and everything which one can want from his college. Good infrastructure, the number of clubs and chapters, cultural and technical fests faculty and most important it is undergraduate research experience, the overall university is best for each thing.
